Not sure how you can say it looks and sounds rough from a photo, but try buying a '99 Elise for less than £8K. A respray from Alan who did N1 would be around £800, and if the interior leather needed a refurb it would be a couple of hundred. If I get it it will not be to sell on for a profit, but if I wanted to then it would probably realise £3K.
Just thought that if I did not get it, then it has to be a good bet for someone that is looking for an S1.

Indeed, and I wasn't suggesting that it wouldn't be a worthwhile buy for someone – only that, from your decription and from the photo – I was a bit surprised to read that someone thought it "looked good" (OK, perhaps wrt the starting price, but it was never going to go for anything near that). Wondered if I might be missing something about the car itself, me not being too clued-up on S1 Elises
Hope that the buyer is happy with his purchase.

Well,
A big thanks to tut and the Gourlay clan for helping me to get back into Elise ownership.
I am now looking forward to getting the wee car home and setting about puting anything that needs doing right.

it was close Ross, but I didn't really want to go there. There is something about the curves that the
S1 has that makes it more pleasing to the eye for me.

Well done on your purchase Stephen

just an idea?? how about fitting an altimeter to this S1,in my experiance

, your cars tend to be more in the air than on the road

Hi tut,
I paid for it today and will likely collect it tomorrow.
I have a black hard top here that I put on the last car for the winter, so I will stick that on straight away and have the roof attended to.
I will take some more pictures and file a report once I get it home

If you are an AA member and do not have P&L cover, get it straight away. The car is an unknown quantity, so it is a no brainer.

That's my undrestanding too and I also thought if it was more than 10 years old they won't take it on anyway. At least that's what the bloke from the AA told me and they only reason they've kept mine on is because it's been with them for years.

Used to be ten years, but now they do not limit it and charge an extra £15. You do not need a service history, just a service invoice from the past year. All three of our cars are on for £125.
Both N1 and SIIIY TT are in for P&L at the moment at the same garage.

Got the car home tonight, it's purple, not blue.
It drove well, though it is the dirtiest car ever.
At first glance it needs;
new tyres
window winders (drivers missing)
Soft top refurb
door card fixings
S1 alloy petrol cap
new wiper arm
and disinfected.
Not had a chance to have a look underneath or a close look at the mechanicals, although it ran and sounded fine.
If anyone has any of the above knocking around for sale drop me a PM please.
