There seems to be a couple of devices, but I wondered if it could be a DIY project...
It is conceptually trivial but practically quite hard to achieve. My advice, throw out any pulse dial equipment and buy in tone dial stuff.

Generating DTMF (Dual Tone, Multi Frequency) tones is easy to do with something like a tiny microcontroller but the microcontroller is then in the line of fire in terms of lightening strikes, etc.

If I were to do this (and I won't), I would remove a DTMF circuit from an existing handset and then get a microcontroller to detect pulses from the rotary dial and then "press" the appropriate button on the DTMF circuit salvaged from the modern handset. Then remove the rotary dial from the telephone line completely and have it connect to only the microcontroller.

Cheers,
Robin

Without knowing all the details, it's worth doing your own "bellwire fix" - made a solid difference on my new build ADSL line http://broadband-speedup.blogspot.com/ - cheers
