Mine is chipped and it's the biggest and best single improvement I have ever done to any car. It is much more drive able. The standard TD5 has a flat spot bigger than Holland. The chip not only boosts the power significantly but makes it much smoother.
Landrover run a single map for all markets, foreign and domestic. So as standard the TD5 is strangled by its requirement to be run on poor quality diesel. Uk Diesel is much higher quality and most chips simply capitalise on it.

The motors are not bad, but the drivetrain is badly designed. The chipped TD5 will eat hardy slicers :( I usually change at least on a year.

One of the best vehicles ever made tho :) :)

Dumb question. Twisted etc all charge a healthy premium, why not offer engine conversions e.g. Chipped 3l BMW diesel rather than just the ajp v8s ? Too complex?

Eh? AJPV8s? You sure?

Just had a wee whizz around their site, bo sign of that, but the used section is quite entertaining - 110 CSW with full BoW interior

May be not from twisted but certainly from JE engineering http://www.jeengineering.co.uk/

they will fit a AJV8, a supercharged AJV8 or a 2.7 V6 Bi-turbo diesel.

I will admit I was mildly surprised to discover that i had only done a few thousand miles between MOTs in the road legal defender.

So I thinking of shoving something with a bit more poke in there. Shrek has the 3.5 V8 on carbs and its a bit flat so my mind is wandering to thoughts of something larger. Either a larger rover V8 or see what else is about as fuel costs can be ignored
Landrover 90 = Muddy shed spec
Fiat panda = Couldn't care less spec
Landrover ?? = Muddy shrek spec
Unimog 404S = Very slow silly offroader spec
Kubota F1900 = Snowplough spec

Ah - my disbelief was worth questioning - the AJV8 is a totally different bouilloire de poisson to the AJPV8 that I mention..... :blackeye

The AJV8 as used by JE is the Jag/LR mill which applies itself nicely to offroading I'm sure - whereas the AJPV8 originally mentioned by our very own Sanjoy and questioned by me is the TVR lump which graced itself under the grp bonnets of 4.2 & 4.5 Cerberas.... and would most certainly be far from ideal for the rough stuff because of its high-revving nature afforded by the flat-plane crank configuration... :blackeye :thumbsup

Hi Iain, out of interest, whereabouts did you get it chipped? Somewhere local? I just bought a 57 plate with the 2.4 puma engine - if chipping it locally is relatively straight forward, I'll probably do it but if I have to drive south, then I dare say I'll just make do.

Bearmach offered me a piggy back plug and play module a while back. They were offering it for nothing as part of a sponsorship deal but I didn’t fancy it on the basis that reliability is absolutely essential for the places I go in mine.

No reason to think its not a good option right enough, just my being cautious.
