Brilliant! Any chance I could drop by your place for a quick noise test tomorrow or Thursday evening? You are in Fairmilehead, right?

No problem Mark, just pop by and borrow it :)

I usually go just over the bypass at the Shell to avoid upsetting the neighbours ;)

Great as they are, noise testing is a NO NO here

Ok, could I call in tomorrow (thurs)? evening. I could pop in after work as my office is just a few minutes away at the Bush estate. What time would be convenient? Oh, and I don't actually know your address.

Many thanks,
Mark

Mark,

If you can't get to Lawrence's then I have a noise-meter at work (between Perth and Stirling) if that's any use.

cheers

Jonathan

(I'm lucky, Lawrence as the only people I can annoy with noise tests is the golfers on Gleneagles - puts them right off their putts apparently :D )

Jonathan,

Thanks for the offer, but I am hoping to catch Lawrence this evening. Does anyone happen to have his mobile number?

Well, Lawrence kindly lent me his noise meter (many thanks!) and................as I suspected the Larini exhaust is LOUD. 102db static at 8000rpm, so definitely not on for Croft. Just finished putting the standard exhaust back on, which consisted of about 20 minutes to easily remove the under tray and the Larini, and about an hour of swearing and skinned knuckles to get the huge brut of a standard zorst back on. Car now sounds like a toyota Corolla, but at least I'll be on track on Saturday :D

Interestingly the comments above about the highest reading coming just as you lift off the throttle rather than when you are holding it at high revs are definitely right - I was watching the read out as my lovely assistant (ok, my rather bemused other half) was revving the car and the reading seems to go up by as much as 2db just as you lift off.

remember, they dont test at 8000rpm, only approx 6000rpm, and less if you can get away with it

I have the Larini on Mark, and you would think that it would have a similar reading with my Honda as your Yota.

However I have no CAT on, and am around 90db at 4500rpm.

Well, I guess I might just have scraped under the limit, but it would be long way to drive if I was not allowed on track, so probably not worth the risk. In any case I had been starting to find the Larini a bit much - it sounds better than any other Yota exhaust I have heard when you are on it, and has much less mid range boominess than a stage 2, but think I might go for something a bit more subtle. Be interested to hear a 2Bular by way of comparison - Ed, if you are reading this, have you got yours yet?.

Ali also has one of Jims latest exhausts fitted, and if you go the manifold route as well, there is a worthwhile increase in power. Your Larini would sell on for a good price.

A lot of the development work was done on Uldis's Exige, but that is with the K series.
