iPad 4 v Mini
Re: iPad 4 v Mini
Probably not sensible to make a decision with out trying hands on, but as we know on S_E it always makes sense to ask for advise from those with experience, so will grit my teeth and go into Aberdeen next week.

I think a mini would be too small then....compared to your air the mini screen will feel tiny. Played with one in the airport thought and they are a lot lighter and easier to handle......but that's only an issue if you don't have anywhere to rest it.tut wrote:I want as much estate as I can get on the screen with a resolution that is sharp and readable. Ideally my Air would be one up, ie:- the same as the 13", but there is no choice. Sony manage 19x10 on the same size screen, so it can be done with a good LCD panel.

I've got an ipad3 and tbh I've been disappointed with it....everyone said it was he default option, best in class etc etc but I don't see what it brings over an android tablet and change. I'm typing on it just now and he keyboard just isn't as nice as the android alternatives.....and don't get me started on form filling on it

I got the ipad through work at a discount but if it was my own money it would be a 10 inch galaxy or a nexus 10
Edit : sky go won't work on android tablets yet if that's important to you.
Focus ST estate, i3s and more pushbikes than strictly necessary.

It's about £100 more expensive but it has a real keyboard that you can clip on

Bought Lee the 10.1 a few weeks ago and she loves it. I've had nothing but peace since. Can't put a price on that!

iPad 4 v Mini
The Mini is nice for size and weight, but having compared it side by side with the bigger iPads the screen is the big let down.
Nexus 7 screen is nicer.
Not sure I could read many eBooks on. mini.
I'm with Sanjoy, mini 2 early next year with Retina. They rushed v1 out for christmas to keep up with Google and Amazon.
I just ordered a new MacBook air 11 today in the Apple sale for Morna. Think it will cover more than just an iPad (which the kids steal anyway!)

Re: iPad 4 v Mini
They put a retina display on the 4" iPhone 5, and a VGA screen on the 7.9" iPad mini.
That is the lowest resolution of virtually any tablet other than sub £100 ones. Do not understand the logic.

Not wanting to turn this into an apple vs 'droid discussion, but although I love my android phone, I also have an iPad2 which I use for work (been a year now) and just feel it does things so much slicker.Lazydonkey wrote:I think a mini would be too small then....compared to your air the mini screen will feel tiny. Ok, apple are a bunch robbing bawbags, but their stuff works well, handles files so much better, the apps are of a higher quality (mostly)... And lots of other things...

I can't really comment on the Apple stuff as I don't own any but I've got 7 and 10 inch tablets. Both have their uses but if you're doing a lot of typing you can't beat a proper keyboard. If you're using it sat on your knee you'll be best with what you've got as the tablets with attached keyboards end up being top heavy. For just web browsing though a tablets way easier - 10 inch can be a bit big and cumbersome if you're using it for a while, especially in bed.

Re: iPad 4 v Mini
I've got a Blackberry Playbook which has a 7" screen similar to the iPad Mini (corner to corner it's about 9").
While it's great for watching videos, browsing the web & writing emails I would suspect that any of the smaller tablets are too small for those with fat fingers or failing eyesight.......
You definitely need to try a few different options to see which is the most comfortable to use. For example the Playbook is far too heavy to use as an eBook reader for extended periods especially lying in bed!
