I don't think anyone can win. No matter what happens Moral and productivity has already fallen.

No appetite for compromise from management they have been very aggressive, 1 guy has already had a disciplinary because HR didn't like his tone.
Oil and gas is doing rather well at the minute.

I read your "19 years" bit, and instantly related to your point of view.

In many businesses, as they grow, their "valued employees" rapidly become numbers instead of names.

You have some cracking skills, G, so I challenge you to set the goal for a move and focus the +ve energy on that. The atmosphere & environment in your current place of work has changed and you don't need to be dragged down with it.

Unless there is a redundancy opportunity on the cards, you've little to lose and much to gain from moving. Indeed, can you even start up on your own? Some sort of freelance / consulting model perhaps?

Above all, you could create the space to enjoy every minute of Nizzy Jnr, which may be an unexpected opportunity

Most important - it's a mindset thing, keep yours in the right place and do not be dragged to "their" level (whether other staff, or "management")

I am sure you will keep us posted!

Oh and LinkedIn is highly effective if used smartly.

One thing to bear in mind with a consultancy is, it is just that. The management team do not need to take on board anything brought up as long as they follow the correct procedures.

Know of an apprentice with a local firm who are not keeping their boys on who has an interview lined with your employers soon.... Also wonder what those who've just left another business and been through similar will be thinking at going through it again.

Totally agree with this Campbell - I moved to a competitor almost 4 months ago, a far more positive attitude filters throughout, and I've not once regretted my move

Neither did I. I sort of fell into it by accident. Could never have taken the leap myself. Trick yourself into it: Take 1 short contract while you look for a permanent role. Then one more... then one more...

One company for 19 years? Jeez, contracting would be a great move IMO. Consider yourself divorced and get out there and have some short flings before you settle down again!

Reads like a horoscope

In G's business I am not convinced that the consultant role really exists like it does in IT/training world - you would really be looking more at sub-contract, I think, and then that requires you to have a sh*t load of equipment and thus capital.

So my view is that if you were going to go it alone it would be on the basis of starting up your own facility, sub-contract business from currently over-tasked suppliers and try to wangle your way into direct supply to their customers.

Moving to a competitor/different job might be less risky.

Although you and Stu aren't in quite the same line of work it might be worth talking to him ... you never know what opportunities are out there!
