I do most of my reading in the bath so I'm very happy with my non-touch Kindle!
The Nook Simple Touch has a touch screen AND buttons for turning the page which aren't that easy to press to you can happily hold the device by the sides where the buttons are - I feel like some sort of salesman here, but promise, I have no affiliation with them!! It looks like they maybe looked at the Kindle and thought what's wrong with this thing...

Case wise, Dundee Kingsway Asda had some nice official Kobo Glo cases for £2.50 last week (though I paid a fiver) which fit the Nook perfectly..
Now, if only I read more books.. I've been reading Dan Brown's latest for the past 4 weeks or so and am just over half way through ;)

Tut/others - do you still get free books on the kindle?

And roughly how much do best sellers cost for it? Less than hard copies I'm guessing?

I really know fark all about these

Thanks for the heads up. Got one of these for my mums birthday. She has always been anti kindle preferring books and prone to break / losing anything and everything. At £29 so what :D

There are free books for most of these devices, mainly classics that are probably out of copyright, like Robin Hood, Sherlock Holmes and King Solomons Mines.

I've not bought many personally, but my experience is that hard can often be CHEAPER than electronic ones.
This might be in part due to VAT being charged on electronic books but not paper ones.

You can check the kindle store for prices:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kindle-eBooks/b ... =341689031
As an example, Dan Brown's Inferno is £7.20 as an e-book, or £9 as a hardback from them.

That's exactly what I felt too.

If you want to be a proper tech-head about it, you can root the Nook as it essentially runs Android.
You can then install a full on version of Android, and install the Kindle app so you can use the Kindle store.
Of course it's an e-Ink screen, so the refresh rate is in seconds, not fractions of, so it's pretty useless for anything else ;)

Personally, I think it would be an interesting technical project, if a little pointless / might be too complex for non-techies to use..

This seals the deal for me I reckon - plus the equivalent Nook is only £40 cheaper.

I've been using the kindle app a bit on my telephone; I inherited one of these that was surplus to requirements ...

The page sync feature is dead handy because at night I still prefer to read from my older kindle (bigger screen, a bit lighter), but I do like the page turn-by-touch and the adjustable backlight of the phone app .... so were I to buy another kindle for some reason, then the backlit touch wifi variant would get my money.

Cheers,
Robin

Really impressed with the Nook for the price. Added a fake visa number that met the check conditions and wham 1.9 free books at a touch and no worries about losing the hardware.

Re Android , great platform. Its taking over the world ..... hopefully. I :love it.

For anybody that has an original Kindle as I did and are thinking of upgrading, I just sold Verian's on eBay for £60 plus postage.
