:-( Never got to watch much from Darkest North Yorkshire, and broadband service so woeful that unlikely even to see "Today at Wimbledon" via iPlayer.

Never mind, tremendous all the same and cannot wait til next year!

Loving Robin's punditry, btw :-)

Don't get me wrong. I like him, win or lose. I just thought it was ironic that he would be sports personality of the year! Donating 1.6m to cancer research is incredibly generous. Well done and I do hope what goes around comes around.

Ryan Giggs picked up the award a few years back and he is as dull as dishwater, more of an award for long service to Man U.
Maybe they should re-name it Sports Performance of the Year

The power of the internet. Don't believe everything you read.
He never said he would donate the Wimbledon prize money to charity, although he did donate his Queen's prize money.
Really happy for him though. He has had to put up with so much media pressure recently.

I have to say I agree with you there when Alex waved the Saltire . I hope it was an innocent celebration but it came across as political point scoring. Surprised more has not been said about it in the media but glad its not been highlighted. Would we have the same opinion if Cameron had done the same with the Union Jack ? probably not but I am not sure why.

Oh - I hope he doesn't come under pressure to donate now, or bad press for not donating it "after all". Apologies for contributing to the Internet folklore ...

Cheers,

I missed the live match as was working, but saw the highlights - very well done mister :thumbsup

Sue Barker went up in my estimations when she said a proud moment for Scotland :D

Saw bits of the programme last night at 9pm about his personal life, and his apparent sh!t personality is more due to a shy element of his persona - he seemed a rather likeable sort when in a more relaxed atmosphere.

The donation of 'winnings' refers to what he received last year at Wimbledon (2012) which is what was donated to the Royal Marsden hospital. Whether he makes a similar donation this year really is immaterial and I suspect he will not be talking about it as he is intrinsically a private person, as is his girlfriend, which to me is an excellent trait and one which is typically Scottish. Dour is another great trait. Really not that well liked by the media but then why should he be. He is a tennis player and it is not his fault that the world is full of vacuous beings all craving celebrity as they themselves lead empty lives with little more ambition than reading a tweet from someone they are never likely to meet or having more imagineary frinds then a Carstairs nut job (Facebook I believe it is called). I do not know Andy Murray. I am not likely ever to meet him either, but I get the impression he plays tennis because A. he likes to, B. he is good at it and C. he wants to be better than he is. Fame and fortune seem to be secondary to this. His girlfriend seem to be of a similar type. This is rare in today's world....and should be applauded no matter his nationality.

Mind you it might all be a complex conspiracy arrange by his 'team'........and propogated by the Murdoch empire, ably assisted by the BBC.....

Gone on a bit....sorry....

The man should be used as an example to all who want to achieve, be it in sport or life in general.

I really would love it were it true....but alas I suspect it is not. Mind you, early days.
