Every F-Type I've seen so far has been driven by old women - what's going on? I thought Jaguar were looking for a younger audience??

I do really like that coupe R. I've just booked a test drive :thumbsup

Got to be honest, I've been disappointed with the convertibles I've seen (& heard) in the flesh Vs photos, but the coupe does look so much better in the photos to start with.

Most pointless car of the year award goes to......the Jaguar F Type.

There's no getting away from the fact that it's essentially a Boxster/Cayman rival yet almost double the price and an inferior driving experience by all accounts. Something tells me they ain't going to fly out of the showrooms. One of the main reasons the E Type was such a big success was down to the low cost/performance ratio. I think if they had pitched the F type just under the German competition and packaged it up with keen PCP deals and an inclusive servicing package then it could have done very well but as it stands I'll be willing to bet you won't see a lot of them on the roads which is a pity.

As a bargain basement ownership proposition a few years down the line yes it will be very tempting. Has anyone noticed how cheap current shape XK's are ? I know I'm biased but has to be one of the best value motoring packages out there at the moment.

No demonstrator of the coupe until March/April - so it'll be a while before I find out if it's any good.

Completely disagree. This is the car Jag needed. Something to take on the likes of a 911/Vantage etc, and get away from the pipe and slippers reputation.

They need to attract a younger market. And going by the responses on PH, it's worked.

The V6 Coupe starts at £51k so it's definitely not almost double the price of a Cayman. Even a well optioned V8S is cheaper than a 911.

JLR pricing in the uk looks well out of line but they seem to be selling well abroad so maybe they aren't too bothered.

Some used f-type convertibles are coming in at the sort of money you'd expect. As usual if you wait a few months the used guys set the true value (that's you Mr Boag :D )

The convertible almost looked ugly alongside the coupe.

Agree with Jeremy and Malcolm on this one!
I love a good Jaaaaag and Along with everyone else on here , wants it to succeed
The price points are way out of kilter with the aforementioned competition.
The convertibles are not setting the heather on fire and three have gone through BCA which is strange for a new model

Too early for my forecast on residuals but looking at PCP deals suggest they will shed 40% over three years

Jeremy
Keep quiet on the XK front.....everyone will want one

Bid on a low miles one owner XK8 (2007) recently
£16k represents fabulous value for a Ian Callum car

^What would you class as its competition?

The coupe V6 starts at 51k, same as an Evora NA, Cayman S is 49k, 911 is 73! All plus options.

Not sure Justin

I think the V6 S at c £60k is getting closer in the comparison stakes to a 991S
I guess the JLR marketeers tried to create a new niche/fill a void between the Gayman and the 911.
The end result in my opinion, is a car that's larger, heavier and maybe less practical in terms of seats/luggage space .
I had a good look at one in the local Jaaaag dealership and I was taken aback at the size of the vehicle , not to mention the poor cabin trim .

It will undoubtedly sway a few punters away from the Porsche dealership if the driving experience is as good as the Gayman S /991S

Me?

The price differential is not enough to sway me towards the Jaaag.
In the real world JLR will throw the kitchen sink at Finance options/Dealer Incentives in an effort to move the car...................something that Porsche resolutely will not do.
This can mean up to £10k off the sticker price of a top spec car which will be telling at resale time.................which brings me back to Malcolm and Jeremy's point earlier

:cheers

Another factor is to consider what markets JLR are aiming for. Their sales in Russia and China seem to be very strong, which can only be good for UK PLC.

The F-type does seem pricey to me, but if I had the coin, I'd have one over a porsche - albeit one that had some depreciation behind it!

Not as pretty as the F but...

Ok this is top end.

edit to add, specs are wrong:
Engine power (BHP): 550
Torque (lbs/ft): 502

Been spending too much time looking at Jaaags. :D

A few guys on Pistonheads saying "Phoawer, that looks nice" doesn't necessarily translate into sales though. Just ask Alfa Romeo.

A V8 convertible is £80k. No sane person is going to walk into a Jaguar showroom and part with 80 large for one of these, no matter how pretty it looks to your neighbours. If they has sold it at say £50k then it could have made an interesting and cheaper alternative to a Boxster S.

Why do Jaguar need to attract a younger market, out of interest ? They seem to be in pretty rude health at the moment courtesy of the pipe and slippers brigade. £80k convertibles with poor cabin trim (as Boag quite rightly points out) aren't going to attract queues of 20 somethings to the showroom, the only way they'll achieve this is by going down into A3 and A4 territory.

Prettier, in my opinion, even in that strange shade of 'green'. But even at this price you'd still be setting a suitcase of bank notes on fire just by driving it out of the showroom. Would make an awesome set of wheels though :love
