new cars are all ugly

Post by flyingscot68 » Wed Dec 18, 2013 2:09 pm

Anyone like the new Mercs? There's an E Class estate in our car park, brand new and shiny in Silver with chrome trim, I think it's rather nice. New C class looks good too but only seen pictures so far obviously. Even the new A class has a bit of style about it.
I think they're one of the few brands getting it right style wise these days.

I havent paid a lot of attention to Mercs but my thoughts are that, like every other manufacturer, they aim for brand unity/ recognition so all the cars end up looking like bigger or smaller versions of the same thing, Audi in particular is guilty of this and BMW seem to be doing the same .

CLA is rotten, but I think that was mentioned earlier.

Spotted a new Cayman S tonight. Looked lovely from the side and the rear. Not sure about the front though

Being a non-Mercedes fan until their recent changes, what's a CLA? A google search unveals a bunch of saloons that look like most other Mercs though I'd though that it would have been the A class..
I've always liked small cars, and hatches and thought it was refreshing to see that Merc had decided to make a fairly normal proportioned car (obviously other than being particularly bulbous as per modern safety standards) rather than that hideous top heavy miniature people carrier that was the A-class of old.

There is a new Merc A class parking outside my office each day and I think it looks all wrong - the front overehand looks way too long. Mind you, still better than the old Elk chaser one though :)

I find the styling of a lot of the latest Mercs to be a bit overdone, especially the huge 3 pointed star they all seem to have on the grill now. Just looks a bit naff and vulgar to my eyes. Much prefer the subtlety of the later post-Bangle era Beemers.

Two I'd forgotten about - the new Mazda 6 is a very well-proportioned and handsome saloon, and the soon to be released Mondeo with is already in the States as the Fusion is good looking.

Liking the new Rangie & Rangie Sport.

Merc A class SO much better than the last heap.

Like the BM 6 series & 5 & 7 & X5 (although interior is poor)

Golf - still looks the same.

Korea is trying to copy the generic car models now and are making less offensive munters than before.

Still wonder how Fiat could ever launch the Multipa?????

And as for Ssangyong...........WTF.

But does anyone really look at ordinary cars ? Makes the special ones look even nicer :thumbsup :cheers

Maybe we should have a competition to find the fugliest car?

Quite possibly the Pontiac Aztec, but now made "cool" by being Walter White's wheels.

Ssangyong Rodius was rotten too.

Great idea ! :D

This has to be the winner. I give you the Ford Scorpio:

Honourable metion too to the Veyron, which has to be the ugliest mid engined car I can think of. Hideous, especially in the spectacularly tasteless 2 tone paint jobs:

And the 'ugly buy still very cool' prize must go to this:

It was designed by an artist.

Whenever I see that new Gallardo it reminds me of Montgomery Burns.
