If you want a keeper I would either get a late model 300tdi or a TD5 and get one needing a new chassis.

Then spend money building it the way you want.

I am looking at a 110 hicap that is sitting rotting on a local farm. It needs a new everything but I would buy it for washers and then build it into a silly V8 powered silly thing. Might cost me 10k but it old be what I want.

The current 90 is a 98 vintage 300tdi which I don't know if I would sell but if I tarted it up then I could get loads from a fashion victim.
Landrover 90 = Muddy shed spec
Fiat panda = Couldn't care less spec
Landrover ?? = Muddy shrek spec
Unimog 404S = Very slow silly offroader spec
Kubota F1900 = Snowplough spec

Spotted on e-bay, interesting for a cheap route into a refurbed Landie of your own spec, know nothing about it apart from what's in the ad.
