I would have said the Torridon too, but if ruled out on price a left field suggestion is this: http://www.marcliffe.com/. The abz guys will probably know more about it as was a couple of years ago we had a night there. Very nice, but a notch down from the Torridon IMHO. Enjoyed it though and gives you the road over the Lecht up via Banchory to get there. :thumbsup

Thanks all for the input

The plan is now to take off on friday evening
Head for Ullapool area and find a hotel/Guest House

Saturday .....do Campbell's tried and tested far north loop......to Tongue

If I was looking for another euphemism ...... I would go all the way across to Dunnet Head

But no......we will head down to Altnaharrie Inn to dine with the shootists and fishermen.

Sunday will be the option to meander down the A9.......or whack back down to Fort Bill and mix it with the bikers through Glencoe

Awaits comments from Rag It to finish the weekend off in the Wormit Inn

Ha ha, we are heading up beyond Ullapool on Friday too, I still haven't done the applecross road and have been meaning to for a while although Pamela fancies going to the North as far as we can go too. I think we'll be camping and drinking cheap red wine though so a totally different break for us.

Will keep an eye out for you. :thumbsup

Could do a lot worse than "celidh place" in Ullapool for bed and/or food Iain/Donald....campsite's practically in the village too and maybe OK for midgies being on the sea-front.
Camp-site in Applecross not so good for midgies but food good in the Inn but pricy if I recall rightly.
Food not too bad at the Craggan in Melness,if you fancy lunch there Iain, and just a couple of miles off the "main" road at the causeway going over to Tongue.
Fantastic driving roads north of Ullapool, hope the weather's good.

We did a two nighter a few months ago. First night was at the hotel in Kinlochbervie and the second night at the Glen Spean Lodge in Roy Bridge. Kinlochbervie hotel isn't going to compare to the Torridon but we were looking for fantastic roads rather than fantastic food and the roads to the North West corner of Scotland don't come much better. Drive back down to Roy Bridge via Gairloch was also superb.

Glen Spean Lodge is a lovely place. Again, not on a par with the Torridon but still pretty good.

I think we're going to Laide! (to help feed your double ententre's)

That's a bugger about Applecross, I don't mind the odd Highland Games but may just go northwards instead.

Splendid work squire!

Whilst i wish you all the best finding a way to Wormit Inn, i can recommend if you come back via Blairgowrie, swing over the Tay Bridge and drop into Wormit as this place http://www.view-restaurant.co.uk/ is a friends and really good!

Returned home yesterday afternoon after 600 miles over interesting roads.

Procession up the A9 to Inverness
Onwards to Ullapool ....which was quiet and enjoyable
Lunch at Lochinver Pie Shop
Up to Durness looking for Big D.........via Scourie , Kylesku............again very quiet with occasional rain.......and every car a German tourist
Along the top to Tongue........then south to Altnaharra Hotel
Relaxed evening with a couple of drinks and their 4 course A La Carte Menu for an unbelievable £32 per person for residents
Long Lie and Breakfast
Headed south to Dingwall via Lairg in Monsoon rain
Over Achnasheen and Ledgowan.............this road has been resurfaced since my last visit and makes for enjoyable motoring.
The last part before Strathcarron is still single track/passing places and less enjoyable
Onwards to Spean Bridge,Fort William where the sunshine returned
A blat down Glencoe/Crianlarich/Lochearnhead...and back to Crieff

Looks like I covered a few of the roads that Donald covered.............but no sign of him

Met a few old classics on a John O Groats run and a solitary 911 Turbo

A Sunday Afternoon BBQ at Farmer Jims with Father G followed.

595 miles at a respectable 27.8 mpg

Ian we must've been close at some point although it's a big place.

Was a good weekend for it despite the odd shower, we got a tad damp with the roof off in that monsoon whilst crossing the Bridge at Inverness, had been dry up to that point. :?
