My first thought was, sh1t, what's wrong with my car?... what is that noise?... followed by, oh, it's the car in front,... what's wrong with it? Did not take long to realise it was the tyres. Nice Mr Shug explained to be later it was "character" of his super cool track tyres. :damnfunny
They were shocking. I had one good set in about 2003 and any set I bought after that were utter tupperware. One thing I liked till the end was the tie fighter howl they gave off, but I actually only have a mental age of about 6...

I would have won the Scottish Sprint Championship in 2005 using them if I had not gone paralytic at Boyndie, so they did have some virtues.

Agree about the yowl on white lines, never known another tyre do that. I think the new set that I have were given to me by Victor.

I've organised a set of tyres from Ronnie on Saturday morning. Some how the RB5 stories turned me off... Funny that

The Maxspurts didn't just howl on white lines, Tut. It was everywhere. And worst on "whisper Tarmac" of which there is so much more now.

Come back Bridgestone SO2...all is forgiven!

Got a set of 048R's on saturday. They were better in the wet that my worn (Just on the wear indicators) T1Rs which I wasn't expecting, and when it started to dry, well they were fantastic. As discussed with Mike and co, they are overkill. But I wanted to experience them. Thumbs up so far. :) They are surprisingly quiet on the road too. :thumbsup

Not sure I said they are overkill, maybe I did

For me personally I am not looking for outright grip, I like the car moving around under me without the car becoming snappy when O48R's do decided to let go. I would happily run a road biased tyre not for the fact they just melt on track and become a little to squirly. Hence my love for the AD08R's, big enough tread blocks not to move around to much on track plus work really well in the wet :thumbsup

Horses for courses and all that :cheers

(that's why I think Mike will do fine, that and his lack of imagination).

I'd set out to get AD08s and just had once of those 'feck it' moments. I agree with what you say. :-)

From memory 2x part worn rear R888 and a front A048R.

Still a wee bit life left in them as swapped for spanky new ones prior to frolicing. I think the front was for a puncture (to the other side so a new pair on).

Free to a good home. :)
Clarky,
Ref your classified ad., I still have these which would seem ideal.
I think there is actually a full set of A048R plus 1 rear R888 but not 100%...
