Let them get a couple of miles away and then activate the code and the car is then grinds to a halt with an engine warning light. Gets them out of your house and avoids the immediate threat.

My mate had a tiny stainless steel flick switch in the carpet of his Sierra 4x4 (newish in early 80's). They were notoriously easy to get into and he woke up one morning to see his 50 yards down the road after it had been pushed off his drive and driven away - before it cut out as they hadn't found his hidden fuel switch

I'm with most people on here though, I'd rather loose the car than have lowlife looking for a phone (probably beside the bedside) to start it.

How is the low life going to know you need the phone to start the car unless you have a sticker advertising you have the system on your car? Losing phone or battery going flat halfway through the day (iPhone trait) would be my concerns :thumbsup

Don't you then just essentially have 2 keys? Would you always keep them in a different place etc..

A retired auto electrician friend of mine used to simply fit a hidden rocker switch under the dash. If you didn't know it was there, you'd never get the van going. Mind you, he also never locked his van doors, he'd say [broken] windows cost money ;)
My brother had a metro years ago, theifs used screwdrivers to try to force both door locks, breaking both locks in the process, so resorted to smashing a window. The crazy thing was, the boot lock didn't work, so all they had to do was press it and get in..

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Certainly makes it interesting if even just to be used when you go on holiday.

Manufacturing question make some pretty cool connected stuff for cars, I just thought this one with directly discourage the pikey that is breaking in just to take the keys.

Also not suggesting this would be DIY . And she are many of the thoughts concerns mentioned.

Will just need to fire it in front of Halfords now and see if they reckon the Fast and Furious pussy would love it when they are McKenzie-in their cars!

If it can do remote starting and revving the Halfrauds crew will be all over it. If it could be programmed to play a musical rev song, you'd probably have to fight them off ;)

Can you imagine the law suits when it starts to play purple haze (lots of high revs) whilst you're driving along the high street and you mow down some pedestrians :-)

I rarely locked the elise for that reason. If I was stupid enough to leave something shiny in there I'd rather they nick it without a smashed window or cut roof.

Problem with not locking car doors is that if it was stolen the Insurance company would try and opt out. Would not apply to an open Elise of course.

Woman had her car stolen whilst re-fueling and paying inside, and they refused to pay out.
