So that begs the question, would you do it on the bike, sometime, in the not too distant future? ;)
Yes,.... yes, I bloomin well would. :thumbsup

Did it on the bike 10 years ago and was distinctly average so must do it again.........

Even when we were doing it 10 years ago insurance didn't cover it, probably didn't realise at the time.......

If I was going I'd still do it as stupid as that may be.
I def had cover in 2003. You know me :-;

So, speaking purely hypothetically you understand.....

If Carlsberg did bike track days, you could get the bike shipped to Monza, and join me for a 2 day track day on the 30th July... Ride up to the ring through the black forest, and catch the ferry back from Ijmuiden a few days later
Arriving broadside, in a cloud of smoke......

Steve.

Excess is more than my car is worth
Your S2 is worth less than 5000 Euro's ? Give me first refusal when you're selling it, will you ? :cheers

I have driven one of the rent 4 ring Suzuki Swifts when I was at the ring last year with Graham and they are absolutely fantastic. They are properly prepared with epic grip and braking performance. Not much power but for a novice like me they have enough power, with the advantage being you can drive them virtually flat out. They also have a RHD model. I doubt I'd have had half as much fun going round in my standardish S1.

I would echo what the other guys have said regarding the insurance. I drove it in the 90's and early 2000's before the insurance companies caught on but I wouldn't take my own car on now.

As for the excess, if you have a biggie at the ring and get away with paying 5000 euros then you've got off very very lightly indeed. It's more the 3rd party liability you need to think about as opposed to the value of your own vehicle.

Thanks for the reply, I know nothing about the route other than we leave from Newcastle on an overnighter, the ring I believe is just a public day and I will indeed be going canny on it as I've absolutely no idea where it goes as never even been round it on a video game, I have no time for gaming lol.. I never thought about paperwork or breathaliser etc so thanks for the heads up!

:thumbsup
You won't need the breath gadget as you'll be doing Holland->Gemany->Belgium->Holland (i.e. not in France).

Cheers,
Robin

Not scary at all compared to 3rd party liability. Imagine the not inconceivable scenario where biker goes off on your coolant, you are personally liable for hospital bills, possible care for the rest of his life...£10 million sound more scary?
Possible jail time too considering your at fault and driving illegally...

Your choice of course, just trying to make sure you know possible consequences.

I know there's a healthy dose of reality in this thread already, however it really is an epic experience, and one, especially as a car nut, you will never forget.

Why not hire a car Mark, and do some prep before you head over? You'll never forget the first time the barrier goes up and you drive through ;)

PS: Get a European Health Insurance Card. It's free and will ensure you don't get stung for major bills, if you slip on a K series oil leak :)

Thanks Steve, I have ordered a card, great shout! I can't believe the negativity on here about the ring, really off putting, reality is if I crash a hire car I don't have 4-5K kicking about for the excess or the 10 million if I use my own car, along with the jail time away from my family and kids...so will probably just give it a miss, was kinda the whole idea of the trip but f#ck it better safe than sorry

Oof that's quite a combo. Unfortunately 30th July is already double booked.

You'll still have a great time Mark, the vibe of the place history etc. Hopefully some pax laps at least, one of my most memorable is a wet lap with Father G in his Rangie! :)

Don't mean to be negative, just realistic. Hiring would be my recommendation, the risk in all cases is very low but hiring consequences are not life changing - worth it for the reward.

Also the ring taxi? Not cheap but if you get 3 up...

I hope he was insured or had a spare 10 million in his back pocket, especially as it was wet and his own car lol??

I'm not sure the ring Taxi is for me, looks great on youtube but I'm a terrible passenger, always sea sick on the ferry home to Stornoway unless I'm flat on my back with headphones in  I've felt pretty queezey on more than one occasion paxing with Mass round KH lol so 13 odd miles of balls out getting chucked about in the back of a car would most likely see myself and everyone else in the car sporting a puke outfit

Sure I'll have a great time as we're also going to watch the WEC at Spa, 6 day jolly

Not meaning to be negative re Ring, Mark, you're just half a generation too late :-/

Treat the Ring as a museum exhibit and Spa as a real life roller coaster, and you're sorted.
