Edit, what about a Renaultsport Clio? That's where id probably go, nearly did during the winter.
Sandra had a Renaultsport Clio 200 as a company car prior to the BMW and was fantastic when you were on it but frustrating when not. The amount of niggles and the pathetic dealerships have put us off Renaults for life I reckon (except the Alpine A610 of course)

As we live 950ft up a hill in the countryside. Is the Mini really that bad in the snow? Did you have winter tyres on the car?

We will have the Defender for the bad weather but also need to consider Sandra getting into work in the winter.

Something like this;

Always liked the look of these. They are nicely finished and feel a bit more special than a standard TT. 240BHP is quite handy too. These have not depreciated over the past few years either. Probably quite safe from that POV.

Cannot help on any of your car questions, but I do wonder why people write like this in car adverts:

"For sale is my Audi TT Quattro Sport 240."

From where does this sentence structure come :-)

Nope, didn't mean it in that way. I did have winter tyres on it and it coped fine in the little bit of snow we had.

I meant that the harsh ride, rattles and continual fear of power steering pump failure were easy to overlook in the summer when it put a smile on my face every journey home from work.
In the winter when the back roads were dark, wet, slippy and unnapealing I'd take the motorway home from work and in that environment a ten year old Mini wasn't the place I wanted to be.

We had a 2010 mini R54 jcw and I thought the car was great. The partner wanted her 'dream' white TT so we traded the mini in for a 2.0L tfsi mk2 TT and regret every minute. Much prefered the mini. You can actually fit more in the mini than you could in the TT due to the very shallow boot. The Mini gets my vote

Thread drift, reckon I could get this for £6k with a touch of negotiation but would I want to?

Dom,

Was a bit tongue in cheek as even my Aberdonian skills cant get £14k discount.

However Rubystone Red looks great on a 964 RS but absolutely horrendous on a Cayman. Very much doubt that anyone will buy that Cayman for months. Even Graeme would truly struggle to sell that "only one in that colour car" !!!

Even the ad makes a veiled excuse for that colour.

Interesting dilemma, George. Both are in our sights as Evora replacements (lol) and having had an early MINI - great car even as a Cooper - the TT may just win out. 4 seats vital to us too.

Turner Garage Armadale are keen on TTs and the salesman seems quite clued up on them. A look, that would be worth, yes, my preciousssss ;-)

Mini - Don't
For all the aforementioned reasons............you would not know it was built by BMW

TT - V6 with DSG please
Watch out for missing pixels in the displays.......especially if you have OCD
Enthusiastic pedalling will have it grounding the sump......so a good inspection underneath ...before purchase

Cayman

My Brother in Law had a 964 RS in Rubystone Red...........chopped it in for a 355 Ferrari.........on balance I bet he still wishes he had the RS
