A clever choice.

I know where a genuinely excellent example is for sale:

2004 Honda S2000 GT Silverstone Silver

On the correct side. It's a car designed for the RHD market whereas you are used to modified LHD cars.

Can't remember TBH. Later Hondas generally match Euroboxes but the S2000 is a classic.

It's a shame you can't get over the stigma or image issue of an MX5. They're a hoot to drive and a lot easier to live with than an Elise day to day. Same with the S2000, although I don't like the engine much in them compared to the civic type R engine. M3 not special enough? I think when it's revving to 8K it sounds pretty special.

I think all the cars you want sound like a disaster for the budget I'm guessing you have to spend (unless you're adding a fair chunk to the broken S2 pot of cash). Maserati or jag will be big bill after big bill.

I really like the look of the new MX5's and they do a serious one with a limited slip diff and billies and everything canny see that being more than 25k OTR stick it on a PCP with a decent deposit and it it'll be pretty cheap. It'll not set your hair on fire with the power but they are renowned for driving dynamics.

Other option is a Scooby BRZ/GT86, I've driven one of these, Subaru derivative (better suspension setup I'm told) and it was seriously good fun to drive, silly, prolonged oversteer on demand and hilariously fun. I nearly bought one. Again won't set your pubes on fire with pace but thats not the point. Loads of fun and cheap to run. The BRZ even passed the miniblonde test. Id love to take either of these round a track, wound be great fun.

I bought a Mk1 MX5 once off eBay for 1500 quid. Ran it for 6 months and sold it to my mate for his wife for 1500 quid.

It was just a lovely thing, still is (he still has it) and were it not slightly too small for me (I'm 6'4) I'd still have it. Virtually free to run and buy and a lovely thing to drive and be in.

I'm adding to the budget mate, you don't get much for £8k these days unfortunately

Much as i love the lego elises, initial purchase cost and HGF aside it's similar in terms of financial heartache if you get a bad one.

Gt86 or MX5 would be my vote. Gt86 down to £12k now. Lewis and Richie from this parish both went from VX or Elise into one and both love them.
Focus ST estate, i3s and more pushbikes than strictly necessary.

....did i ever tell you about the Evora and VX220 i used to own?
