More speed cameras
Re: More speed cameras
Over the whole proposed distance from Stonehaven to Dundee (which I work out to be around 45miles), doing a continuous 70mph instead of 80mph will cost you another 5 minutes.
Hardly the end of the world. 5 minutes more Radio 4.
It's exactly the sort of road where we shouldn't give a damn if they roll out SPECS. I hope it means they can get rid of a few scam vans, and don't just redeploy them to a more fun road.

Re: More speed cameras
I sit at 75 on Peth to Stirling on the speedo and waze shows 72/73 and not had any tickets so will do the same on this road. Although it's probably not worth risking it for a couple of mph. The biggest issue is the effect on other drivers and more people overtaking at 60mph 'just incase' they go near 70, oh no!
Re: More speed cameras
It would help if drivers realised what the speed devices are actually set at, instead of slapping their brakes on if they see that they are doing 75.
It is not a written down figure, but the norm across Scotland is 10% + 2 mph, often higher down South. This translates to either 68 or 79, I think its sensible to stick to 30 and 40 on the clock for the other restrictions. Your speedo over reads on modern cars by around 2-3mph, so you are always going to be safe at 65 and 75 and there is no need to slow down for devices. The same applies to average speed cameras.
A patrol car will be more forgiving and will often depend on whether he got his end away the night before if you are not being silly. I doubt though that even if he been in a gang bang with the Annual Playmates in Playboy whether it would have made any difference to my 109.

Re: More speed cameras
Doing 70mph into the back of a tractor or into the side of a car is only vaguely less lethal then doing 80 into the back of a tractor or into the side of a cargraeme wrote:Over the whole proposed distance from Stonehaven to Dundee (which I work out to be around 45miles), doing a continuous 70mph instead of 80mph will cost you another 5 minutes.

However
Doing 138mph (Someone in our work) and not hitting anything is exceedingly not lethal
I am not bothered about the enforcing the speed limit
Just it could be made far safer by having someone with an IQ higher then the speed limit actually looking at the issue
Also driving though an average speed camera section appears to turn people into complete retards as they are doing below the speed limit so anything they do is safe.

I'd put money on most of the nasty accidents having happened at the Laurencekirk junction having seen a few there over the years. So instead of putting in a flyover we get average speed cameras on the entire road. Followed an Audi A6 in Germany with a family in it doing 120-140mph for a while, no one was killed, shocker!

Well if we as a country vote for idiots
Should we be surprised when they do something idiotic?

Eh, so who should we vote for? I don't see any Einsteins looking to be in charge.thinfourth wrote:Well if we as a country vote for idiots

Re: More speed cameras
Really cracks me up how unintelligently most folk handle the average speed cameras. I always sit at an indicated 73/74 on cruise and am always overtaking most other people easily, they are just so over cautious it's funny. Then there are the Dick's who take offence to being overtaken then boot it past you only to be overtaken again five minutes later after they've slammed the brakes on as they pass the camera. There really are a lot of dim witted drivers out there indeed. I don't mind the cameras tbh, takes a lot of the stress out of the journey.
Re: More speed cameras
I'm with Robin, I can't get my knickers in a twist over the change. ( OK I'm getting old) But in the scheme of things it will put about 5/6 minutes on the journey time. However without the luxury of cruise I'm hoping I don't stray too much over the 70mph.111Robin wrote:. I don't mind the cameras tbh, takes a lot of the stress out of the journey.
Re: More speed cameras
They should be putting cameras in towns and villages not fast moving routes. The risks are far more prevalent despite the lower speeds. Again I'm fed up with knobs driving right up my chuff through towns at 30. In some places with parked cars on both sides 30 is too fast anyway but driving at 20 when the risks are greater with kids possibly running out infuriates those who just can't bare to think of others. It'll never change.

This is what the scam vans are supposed to deal with.111Robin wrote:They should be putting cameras in towns and villages not fast moving routes.
Re: More speed cameras
I've rarely seen a scam van in town, usually on main roads but i don't get around much so probably am wrong. You see the occasional hand held radar in places but not often. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of any of these measures especially on safe main roads but in town if they control those who only think of themselves then so be it.flyingscot68 wrote:This is what the scam vans are supposed to deal with.111Robin wrote:They should be putting cameras in towns and villages not fast moving routes.
Re: More speed cameras
They keep drawing comparisons to the A9 and talk about improved journey times, reliability etc. They do realise that the A90 has an extra lane and no single carriage way sections.neil wrote:I'd put money on most of the nasty accidents having happened at the Laurencekirk junction having seen a few there over the years. The majority of accidents have been at junctions so the cameras are a cheap way of addressing the road safety issue rather than re-grading the problem areas just whack a bunch of cameras at it.
