I really doubt that. The finance companies are not stupid. And they're not paying RRP on anything they sell, so their idea of final value and our view of the used market are two entirely different things. And they're buying in bulk at further discounts. And they're trickling the used stuff back into the market carefully. And used prices haven not been affected by cheap lease deals, suggesting that the market prices are correct.

There are always exceptions, and I would imagine some super special deals go back at less than break even, but that can be deliberately done to shift stock by a deadline, or meet buying targets to keep discounts, so overall they're still winning. Plus the VAST majority of lease/pcp deals are not that great, and some are simply terrible, and your average punter will still sign up for it anyway. So the average will be just fine despite the occasional Golf R epidemic, and I don't believe for a minute that the finance companies have got it all wrong and are losing money.

Good points well made on the parking front :)

Moving on from the initial shock of the numbers I realised that, last/this year, with 5 taxed, insured and MOT'd cars in my life, I was probably a little higher than average!

Only 4 now so things are getting better ;)

Yep, someone flew up from London for it.

I met him at the airport, he looked over it, did the bank transfer, and drove it back down that afternoon / night.

I got a phone call from him the next day asking which oil I use in it as apparently he got 25 miles from London, and the oil light came on.

He was also surprised how frugal it was as with the fuel I had in it, he made it about 3/4 the way from Edinburgh to London. i'd already driven from Dundee, and there was only 3/4 of a tank in the first place. not sure how he managed that, I certainly didn't.

What was the tank in though? It wasn't in my old 944 S2 ;)
