BM E30 (see avatar) has 197K on the clock... and will not die, despite as much abuse as we call all throw at it! Rev limiter probably the most used part on the car

I'd echo the comments on the volvos.
Just sold my 1 yr old S60 D5 due to the fact that the only thing faster than it was the depreciation
However had been so happy with it I bought a 2001 S60 2.4T SE with 104K on the clock. Fully spec'd and running great for the equivalent of about 5 months depreciation of the previous one.
Stacks of high mileage cars on ebay for good money, just be careful what you buy.

There's also a website dedicated to high mileage volvos. Can't join until you've got 150000 on the clock and there's plenty with 500000. :thumbsup

I love my bucket - a 96 Escort, bought for £600 with 80k miles. It has done another 40k with only a wheel bearing replaced. Been far less trouble than my dear Lotus, and you don't give a toss when people try to drive over the top of it in car parks etc.

Plus when you buy something that crap it makes gettin into the elise seem like Christmas every time! 8)

Volvos have been the most reliable and best built cars on our fleet at work... consisting of; volvo s80 (6 of) Merc E & S class (17 of) Jaguars (6 of) Mercedes Vianos (7 of) Volvo Limousines (3 of) + rolls royces.

Some of our Volvos have over 110K on them, and have never given us any probs, and still drive (almost) like new.

2.4 5 cylinder 10value unit. Get about 20-25mpg at best, drops below 20mpg when towing

Really need a diesel now as Mandy now drives to work in Clydebank rather than just driving to the train station.

Tom,

I think you should change the spec of the Volvo to "Death trap spec" ;-) And then you could change signature to "Flame on!" too

Cheers,
Robin

I got 230k out of a rover 216 (poosibly the honda engined one rather than the K. Could be wrong though). I think it was a K plate.

When I scrapped it the engine was still going strong but the car had sort of dissolved around it, so much so that I can't actually remember why it had to go.

Saab, Saab,Saab,Saab,Saab,Saab,Saab,Saab,Saab, Get the 9000 2.0 turbo and you'll be on over a million miles with maybe a gearbox change at 800K.

They go for decades and are hugely luxurious.
