Yup, a couple of my top reasons there! 8)

I'm really surprised at all these stories about slow drivers and people not liking speed . . . we were constantly over the limit when we were there and didn't have a single problem. Perhaps it varies from area to area, but the regions I was in were not like that.

The way I look at it is that the twisty Elise-friendly roads are an added bonus to the many reasons I've fallen in love with the country, so even if I have to obey the speed limit on them, I'm sure I'll have plenty of fun. Plus, it won't take too long to get to Stelvio pass! :D

Correct...that happens here as well !!!

Point is though, if you move there, you'll be driving about in your Elise without the advance party of megaspeed nutters treating the place like a racetrack. So much less problemo. I believe Richard Gilmour has gotten on OK, and I would love the opportunity - and finances - to be able to try it!!

We are actually off to CH (Wengen) for a long weekend in 10 days, so I'll take a few of 'em on in our terbo Corsa hire car and report back

So recommended for a holiday but not for speeding then? We have been toying with the idea of a Swiss or Austrian holiday during the summer, I take it that it is worth the trip? We'll either fly drive or take her MX-5, she won't even contemplate the Liz... yet!

I might pursuade her if I refit the Cat and have a go at sound proofing....

Richard,

Definitely, definitely go and have the holiday, and the MX-5 will be perfect.

Doesn't really matter where you go in CH, but places we've been and often gone back to include:

Jura mountains behind Neuchatel.

Gruyere (hilltop village of cheese fame).

Emmental region (also of cheese fame).

Luzern.

Bern.

Interlaken area, Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald, Wengen...get the "good morning ticket" on the Jungfraubahn to the "Top of Europe" station, awesome. Also cable car up to Piz Gloria, of James Bond "On her majesty's service" fame.

We camped in the Jungrau camp site in the Lauterbrunnen valley - excellent place, great facilities.

Many passes through all sorts of regions will be a great drive, I think. I recall Jaunpass, also Sustenpass, and some others in that area. If you are looking for specific suggestions, I'll try to dig out our old maps and see if I can work out where we went on our various hire car tours...usually in 1 litre Corsas which puffed their way up many a pass!!!
