Thanks Sanjoy...but that is for the '1st generation' iPod Shuffle.
I have got the new '2nd generation' iPod shuffle. I guess it's fixes aren't out yet.

worth calling Apple on this one or check their FAQ. XPshouldn't drivers for it. Have you tried a different USB port?
