snowboarding
Absolutely but I'm restricted to weekends really.Stephen wrote:Anyone for a day away if and when it snows here?
I thought about going through the BASI system but I decided I'd probably never use it and it would be a lot of money wasted for nothing really. Same with the racing, could've gone into it but wasn't really that interested.
I only started skiing at the age of 12 and racing at 16 so was late in the game but in Uni I was able to do a season or two catching part of the FIS circuit in Europe - had a great time on the Brit Uni team met a great group of peeps through it. I gave up on skiing in Scotland after one FIS race where we built snow shelters at the top of the slalom to stop the on set of hyperthermia! Still love running some gates hate to get rusty!Mr Momo wrote:Jamie - did you ski with the SSC before joining the British Team ? I used to race years ago, before coaching for the CSC - but in the last 7 years, children and poor seasons have put me off. Not really sure if I feel I want to get back into it again.jamie wrote:![]()
bain of my life only good for scraping snow off a mountain
Seriously though I used to be a ski racer and have spent a couple of days on a snowboard and was able to carve by the end of it. You will find that the first 48hrs brings nothing but pain. On the plus side the initial learning curve is steep but then goes very flat after the initial break-through.
While Skiing thanks to the new ski tec has a comparable early learning curve but remains steeper for longer basically meaning you get better quicker.
Interestingly the trend of skiers becoming snowboarders is now reversed (only in the last 18 months or so)
Think it could be a possible group meet go to the oversized freezer in Glasgow?
I like to go snow boarding but spend a fair amount of time on my arse. Spent Xmas in Obergurgl, Austria which was awesome. Occaisionally go to Xscape on a Sunday night for the 7 to 10 session as it is only £30.
When you get it all right it is awesome fun. Good luck. My son tells me that it is easy but then he can skate board and surf.

I'd be up for a meet at Xscape . . . I'm actually going tomorrow night for a bit of practice before my holiday to Meribel in a couple of weeks.
I've not tried snowboarding, but definitely will one day. Only just got into skiing recently. Did a day or two when I was young, but forgot everything, so learned from scratch again when I was in Switzerland at New Year there. I'm totally hooked now! Can't wait to go to Meribel!
I'd be well up for a (weekend) daytrip to a Scottish ski resort but I'd need a lift as there's no way the liz would be coming with me!
