Anyone been to Riga, Latvia ???
Uldis I hope you enjoy your trip I loved it and would return any day even with the missus lol
Now where do I start.....
Accommodation.....
We stayed in the Albert Hotel which was around 10 mins walk to the old town area of the city. It was only 2yrs old and was based on the Albert Einstein theme, the rooms were very clean and modern with LCD TV mini bar etc, no dodgy orange bathroom suites here
The Hotel had a bar area on the top floor, 11th, called the star lounge, this had stunning views over riga and any type of cocktail you wanted, although we stuck the beer, "cesu".
Bars....
We spent the majority of time in the old town and trawled through various bars, DeLacys, stella bar, dickens. There were more but I forget
Typical cost of a beer in these was around £1.50 to £2, so cheaper than here but not dirt cheap. We also went to the Skyline bar, this is on the 26th floor of the reval hotel, again a 5 min walk from our digs. This bar takes your breath away with the views over riga, again very modern and about £2 a pint, well worth a visit, this hotel also had a club called voodoo on the ground floor worth a vist aswell although it's £6 to enter.
Food.....
As we were grabbing things to eat here and there we didn't actually go an sit down for a meal anywhere. We popped into McDonalds which 2 large big mac meals cost just £4.00 ! Hessburger which is a norewegian burger joint (there seems to be a theme here
) Myself and one other paid a visit to TGI Fridays which consisted off 2 soups, 2 special burger thingys and 2 beers which was only £10 each ! A couple of lads went to Dickens for a breakfast which they didn't rate very highly.
Clubs....
A 5 min walk from the hotel was a club called Essential, 5 lats (£5) to get in so not that cheap but the drink was less than british prices. This club was open from 10pm to 8am ! We also paid a visit to Roxy's which is up in the old town, this seemed to be full of locals though and we felt a little on edge in the place. We also didn't visit the Jockey club
, I'll let you find out for yourself via google what that club is all about
People....
Are very stand off ish, they weren't very friendly but at the same time they weren't rude they just went about there business with no fuss. Even though we were there a group of rowdy lads we respected the city and as long as you do that there isn't any issues, we don't act like nonces in glasgow on a night out so we def. didn't do it there.
I can't think of anything else, my heads still fuzzy !! If anybody wants more info. give me a shout.
ps the women in general walking around during the day or in the bars/clubs at night are stunning !!

Well, came back on Thursday (early hours)
Family holidays, so no drinking and didn't go out to any club.
BUT they were the best for personal reasons: my father is originally from there and after WW2 never came back.
Ours was a trip to see my origins and we also found some family (which we thought didn't exist).
In short, won't bother with details but these have been the best short holidays we've ever had.
PS - it's true about the beauties out there, must be the mixing of the races but the impression is that about half of them are super models.
Saw only one slightly chubby girl, and even then she wasn't obese.
Talking to a (new-found) relative he told me one of the reasons they take so much care of themselves is the fact that there's a lot of competition: there are just too many women for the number of men (so you know)
