It's not self control! I am just cheap - I love buying stuff but I hate spending money.
The idea of spending x thousand pounds more than this on something which is 5% or 10% better I just couldn't do.
I'm not too worried about status symbols anymore (and I still have a Lotus) although I may disagree with myself on that when I have turn up somewhere nice in this! so why not? It gives me thousands of pounds to spend on something else, like an S1, or a motorbike, or an S1 or a kitchen.

Oh sh*t it's going to get spent on the kichen isn't it?

I think once you have entered the world of truely silly cars then almost everything else basically becomes a domestic appliance.

Made of metal, not very interesting but it does the job. My old BMW i had as much passion for that car as i did for my microwave.

The microwave was pleased, though, as it meant it had every other night off ;-)

That's a great description, although perhaps odd on a car forum, most cars are just white goods to me. A colleague is talking of replacing his 530d and we were chatting about what he should get, once I would have been full of suggestions. But now nothing that would suit him (he does 30k+ miles a year) interests me enough to even have an opinion on. Well once I'd established a secondhand 911 wasn't a goer and an M5 was out of his price range.

LOL. I have thought the same in the past but as I'm in the middle ground between poster and lurker I just end up sounding like a cnut.
