TUT, Like Sanjoy.
T-mobile MDA Compact II phone (free on contract) about the same size as a bar of soap.
TomTom 6 on the memory card.
Holux 358(?) bluetooth GPS (uses same charger as phone).
Plus Bluetooth headset, forget model, but same mini USB charger socket.
Works for me

and only need to carry one charger
No, No! not Bloke. It's pronounced Black, as in Plaque

Another vote for TomTom One here.
After many years of using various SatNav systems on PDAs, I still could not make it simple enough for Andrea and so plumped for the One.
I would never go back down the PDA route (still use the PDA when walking though, not too many roads up hills).
It was on offer at Currys a while ago for £143

There is a new road in Carnoustie? Never saw it on the news!
It's called the Monifeith Bypass

Thanks for the offers, but I have the Acer N35, and she really needs a standalone unit that is simple to use. Dixons are doing the TT710 online for £231 with free delivery, so not much point in buying a used one on eBay.

Where does Clare live, I'll do Verian a route
in really big type.

No, just the A92 dual carriageway that's been built for almost 2 years now!

Another vote for the Garmin Nuvi range that Katrina uses
300 has street number accuracy maps of UK and Ireland
can be charged from a USB slot whilst loading pics and music
upgraded versions have Europe maps and/or blutooth handsfree for your mobile

I used to have an Ipaq with a Navman GPS jacket/Navman software. Was pretty cack getting signals, but I bought a standalone Navman F20 in December.... brilliant. The units these days have come a long way.
Although the current entry model, the F20 does everything I need it to (Full Digit Postcode searches, and you can buy a traffic module later which has no subscription)... and comes with Speed Camera/POI loaded (Don't think TomTom One comes with Speed Cameras and I think the traffic thing is a subscription service). Price-wise, it was £150 which was on a par with the Tom-Tom One.
The only thing I could see that TomTom had over the Navman was the fact that you could download gimmicky voices... which I didn't want anyway.

Verian can still not really work her mobile phone, and that came off the Ark.
As for the TV, hard drive recorder, and DVD recorder, well in her defence, she is a good cook and mother.

Checked on the Garmin Nuvi 660!, but a drawback would seem to be that you can not multi route.
So it has to be a GPS succered onto the windscreen, that does as it is told, as simply as possible.
Looks like a toss up between the TomTom 710, and the Navman N60i.
The latter has an extra 0.3 inches in its favour, but I have not told her that.

I saw the tomtom one in Halfrauds for £159 today.
it's easy enough to find a torrent of the european maps and upload it into the tomtom. - no real need to shell out (as long as your morals are suitably lax)
my dad's got the tomtom one - seems to do the trick. - easy to use, Very quick to recalculate etc etc etc.
you could just let go of your conscious mind, reach out with your feelings... or something like that. who needs satnav?

Frankly, Tut does. Or something more severe, like a personal sherpa at all times

My take on this is the Road Angel 6000 is the best for speed camera warnings. The Tomtom blows it out of the water for navigation though.
I have been told that the tomtom database isnt updated as often as the road angel. The road angel is updated at least once a week.
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

Parents have a Naviman thing and it's competely crap. Massively out of date maps and can't find get a gps fix most of the time. Rubbish.
Even the roads on the map can't be found when you do a postcode search.

How old is their Navman?... maps on my F20 seem fairly up to date, only had 1 occassion in Glasgow where it took me up a street that was now a dead end.
