And just ahead of a £1500 clio :D

Having had one I would have another one tomorrow just because they look so good. The S2 I now have doesnt do as much for me in the looks dept . I parked it yesterday and walked off without locking it / looking at it and I never did that with the exige. The interior is more or less the same save for some suede, but the drive in the exige is different class. The elise feels a lot lighter and the engines have their own character.

If you want to spend the money, do it. If you want to save the money, on the road (and for some on track) an S2 Elise is 80% of the car for a lot less of the £. But its that 20% that I loved. The s2 elise is a superb car (especially at the money I paid for mine used).

When I get another Exige it will be an S (once they have depreciated that wee bit further  )

you can make a 111R the car the exige is on track - buy exige suspension and wheels with A048s - job's a carrot.

If you get an exige, make sure it has all the correct options boxes ticked - aircon is a must if the roof won't come off, and performance pack cars seem to be the most popular at resale (but you have to decide if you can live day-to-day with the harnesses for example).

I love the look of the S2 exige, but its too 'big' a car for me. That said I'd have real problems saying no if someone offered me one in Starlight Black or Krypton Green 8)

I'm probably going to go for an Exige next (sometime away though). I love my 111R, but I really want that batmobile look from a black S2 Exige! 8)

Straight line performance is identical on paper according to Lotus, but we all know that's not what you buy a Lotus for! As everyone has already said, it's in the suspension/tyres/cornering department that the difference is very noticable. When I had a shot of an S2 Exige, it just felt so much more precise in the corners than my 111R.

Regarding roof off, I believe you can take the roof off any S2 exige except the Exige S. Please correct me if I'm wrong folks! So, why do more Exige owners not just take the roof off, leave it at home and take a shower cap? I know Jamie did it once with his S2 Exige. Is there any technical reason why you shouldn't take the roof off? If I got one, I wouldn't bother with a soft top conversion. If it's okay to take the roof off, I'd just leave it at home and get a shower cap in case of rain.

Greg,
Exige roof 'can' come off.
Performance pack cars come with harnesses but does have standard belts too!

I bought a 111r before they announced the S2 exige - at the time i wished I'd known about the Exige's arrival, but i then turned my 111r in to an Elige - with Exige suspsnsion, wheels and A048's. Adding pagids and a stage 2 exhaust gave me the best of both worlds :D

Both awesome cars, just depends what you think about the roof. Think Ed P's lastcar was a great compromise also as he took the roof off and bought the soft top! (when i was lucky enough to drives Ed's exige I missed the roofless experience).

As for Elises being quicker than Exiges - 1st depends on the mods done, second depends on the driver

The Elise is slightly lighter though

An S2 Exige "may" be easier to sell on. Even judging by the opinions on this thread it looks as if more would buy an exige over a 111R.
It's less about the price you have to pay, but more about how much you will lose on depreciation. Not too many people consider that when buying a car, but the less you lose when selling your current car means you can afford a higher priced car the next time. And we all know that at some point we will "upgrade" :D
I would love an S2 Exige, wouldn't even give a 111R a second look (no offence  ) but very hard for me to justify as a second car.

Anyway S1 is where it is at, just ask Ed, AndyG, Jamie , ..... :D

Good point Stewart, thats a point I hadn't considered as the car I really want (one day maybe is an exige S).........its looking more like an S2 exige guys......unless anyone can tell me why a 111R is better (in their opinion).....

All I need to do is get mine sold, buy a shed and clear the garage........joy..........oh and get the dosh sorted........

i wouldnt buy an exige for the performance, your S2 111S will be just as quick if you wer to run sticky tyres and make a couple of mods.

If its the looks then i cant argue with that, but dont change it for a supposed performance increase.

You can on the S.. I had mine done recently. You simply need to get the softtop conversion done.
You do lose a few horses due to the fact that the airflow is dirupted with the removal of the hardtop.
However I do know someone who is fabricating a airscoop which can be fitted when the hardtop is not in place or if the softtop is on.

Congratulations Cowan, good to see that you are getting some fresh air motoring in.

ps Did you ever have your radiator changed or is it original as it has sprung a leak? Of course I always preach to everybody to take out the AA Parts and Labour warranty, but they could not cover N3 as it is over 10 years old.

Ali went from a sorted S2 111s to a S2 Exige. I'm sure he will be along soon.

:withstupid

Very little difference between a 111R/Exige and my car. The power difference is only around 10bhp/tonne so hardly noticeable, it just feels quicker because of the 2nd cam.
