definitely buy the sheddest shed possible G

if your shed is even half way decent, your fun car sits and rots

for 20-30 miles a week I'd buy stout shoes
if evolution don't take care of it, redesign it

Citroen Xsara.

Mine was 30k, 3 yrs old, 2 owners, a few scratches ( the last owner was very old and they are all parking dings) and cost 2.7k

It will not depreciate. Scraping the mudflaps on every corner makes me laugh. It does 50mpg (OK 45. OK 38.).

You can a Xsara VTS if you want to go quickly for 1500 quid. 167bhp, no depreciation to talk of (how much can a 1500 quid car drop) Peugot 306 gti-6 chassis. I kept up with (in fact overtook a couple) of WRXs at KH in one until smoke poured from the brakes. hitting stuiff doesn't matter, dings just give it character.

To quote one of the folk on here "never underestimate the fun you can have in a disposable car."

Get you lot!

Something not taken into account here is the fact that Gareth, like me, has more than just ourselves & other half to think of - on that basis, it is nice to have something decent to tool about in when you need to take bairns about too, which happens a lot with parenthood

Millie (2 1/2) loves the Elise. If we got somethign better she'd start to prefer the quiet fast car over the noisy fast car (aka the baby car as she calls it. "dadddy can we take the baby car. Daddy go fast.")

This would not do so buy having a sh*t second car I am actually educating her about the wonders of Lotus ownership.

the toy Gareth is looking at will only be used on track/ autotest etc.

The Focus will still get 6-10k miles a year.

Defender 90 :thumbsup

with the bonus of being a fine towcar and curiously fun to drive in a perverse way

we shall pass quietly over the huge fuel costs and being slower then a slow thing stuck in slowland on its way back from the slow shop after buying some extra slow
