I can vouch for the tub being strong, (only got a skint shin) but everything around it, I guess is designed to crumple and discipate (SP?) the energy. Just don't expect the insurance company to say it's fixable after an off.
No, No! not Bloke. It's pronounced Black, as in Plaque

True but then the windscreen will just collapse on an Elise whereas on other soft tops such as an MX-5, it is probably built to withstand a roll with strengthened A pillers. So really you just have a roll bar at the opposite end of the car.

I dont think he's disputing that, just saying that where it is on the elise is nearer your head, which is usually a good thing

And I wasn't disputing that hence the use of the word "true"

i think blaque is right here though - unless it was a small dink i cant see the insurance company wanting to even have a go at mending an elise...

The g/f's MX-5 would not be good in an impact, especially with the roof up! There are bolts and gubbins sticking out right next to your head.

A roll over in it would be good night vienna and no mistake. Draw a line from the top of the boot to the top of the windscreen and see where your head is

the repair to my car (55 plate 111R) was £15006 - £5K for parts, £10K labour -really suprised that ins.co authorised repair as was expecting it to be written off.
I can vouch that they are strong little bu**ers, crash impact must have been close to 100mph, although after initial slight frontal impact truck ran down the side of my car which took lots of energy out of it, however I got out with nothing more than a bruised leg and truly believed just before impact that I was in for major injury or worse. Probably if I hadn't swerved to avoid full head on I wouldn't be here to tell the tale now.

Be careful out there!!

eventually - was 3rd visit to collect the car before I was happy to drive it away and that was after 5 months wait, and one week later it was trailered back after overheating.

However all good now & I am convinced if insurance co had authorised it to go back to Hethel it would have been done quicker and without (as much) expense. Keith
