Don't know, 5" I think.

Here's my email to Jim and his reply.

------------------------------------------------------
Hi Jim,

Hopefully you can help.

Looking for an exhaust which does my car justice. The standard exhaust just doesn't cut it. I want people to hear a supercar before they spy me 

Requirements:

• Ideally track day legal, not vital though.
• I want Ferrari and Lambo drivers to stand up and take note! I want the Bugatti Veyron owners to quiver in fear when they hear my exhaust note!
• I want my great aunt in Africa to hear me when 2nd cam kicks in, something that sounds like a fighter jet flying by would be cool.
• I want to be as close as legally possible to an ASBO and eviction from my street 
• Do you do installs? I am useless at car stuff.

Based in Edinburgh, happy to drive up.

Gary.
------------------------------------------------------
Hello Gary, thanks for your enquiry. ;-)

ok, well I can make you an exhaust which will make the car sound like it looks! The smaller the physical size of the silencer, the louder it will be. I'd go for the 6"dia x 18" long system - it's a good balance between a manic note on the second cam and still reasonably quiet on cruise mode. It is 105dbs on the drive-by at Donington - quiet enough for a "noisy" TrackDay.
I can go down to a 5"dia x 18" system, the scream on the second cam is something else - no use for TrackDays though!
I'll be discontinuing the "Ultra" (4.75"dia) as it's getting very expensive to make but I can go smaller than the Ultra now, down to 4"dia(!) but it gets more difficult to eliminate "drone" when the silencer is so small - and "drone" is very easy to induce on these cars with their rigidly mounted exhaust systems!
Tip position - I can bring them out to the rear numberplate edge or place them the same as std - although I have dropped the Stg2 style.
I don't fit the exhausts, sorry. I have a good guide to fitting (on the website), if you can rope in another pair of hands, it's a dawdle.
Taking a break in a couple of weeks till 6th Aug, so any order would be made by second week in Aug.
e-mail me a contact phone number if you want to have a chat about things Gary and I'll give you a call tomorrow, if that's ok?

Best Regards,

Jim V

Gary, if the only trackdays you are planning to do are at KH then you will have no problems with any spec. If you're planning on going down south the the only spec that will be track friendly will be the 6 x 22 silencer for the majority of circuits.

So if you want loud go for the 5 x 18, you cant have it loud and quiet.

Ps interesting that he is discontinuing the Ultra, makes mine a limited edition special then :D

Not planning any trackdays down south other than my walshy day - I better check with them that the noise level will be ok. I guess so, seeing it's close to an airport?

Ali,

Picking up my 2bular this evening - can you install at some point tomorrow with the pagids?

Are you able to run the new brake pads in for me too?

it should take 1 hour at 40 quid an hour. i dont charge VAT though so theres a saving there straight away.

I also dont fill the car with the petrol that i use, or recompense any damages caused.

if you drop the car round here i'll get onto it right away Mr Gary

I am also in EDI this weekend, and if McKeann and RDH are not available then i have an hour to spare when not driving Greg's Elise down south, and on KH that i could easily bed your pads in for you.

Payment - Just a full tank of petrol, and i will promise to make all nice and warm!

:finger

I thought I read on these boards that bedding in pads if not done properly will result in the pads being destroyed very quickly (I am sure I read in a matter of minutes)....

Anyway perhaps I am wrong...is it easy to break them in ?
