Scotty, is the trackday still definitely on?

tut
Yes the trackday is still on.

in ref to racing, this is the e-mail from Paul:

This is the news no one wanted.

However, in the circumstances MSVR have been left with no other alternative and have our full support with this decision.

I know you'll all be disappointed, especially as we were assured of two full grids and have a track day on the Friday, the awards night and have had the Lotus Show moved to this weekend to co-inside with the racing.

You can be assured that EVERYTHING has been done to try and keep the event in place. I've personally been on the phone with either David (MSVR) at least 10 times each day for the last week, this has I'm sure been the most difficult time in their professional careers but they have at all times put the drivers first. Myself and Steve have also been in constant touch over the last week to look after our series best interests.

Fridays track day, the awards night and the Lotus show will go ahead as planned. We are looking at other options for racing but time is obviously running out now, we don't expect any news on this before Tuesday and I wouldn't raise hopes. We do also have an issue around the remaining places for A1GP and will issue an update on this early next week, with a few more entries today we are very close to a full grid of 44 modified/211 cars.

Please accept my apologies for this but be assured MSVR and LoTRDC have at all times acted in the best interests of the drivers.

Paul

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MSVR - Donington Park, April 18/19

You will be aware that Donington Park does not presently hold an MSA track licence.

We believe that to obtain a full MSA track licence Donington will need to carry out various works concerning, in particular, the circuit between Macleans and Coppice. Racing through this area of the circuit was restricted by the event permit for the MGCC and HSCC meetings last weekend, however we understand from various discussions with the MSA that no further similar arrangements can be made.

Our primary aim has of course been to run the meeting on 18/19 April as planned. To this end, in addition to a continuous dialogue with the MSA, we sought specific confirmation from Donington that a full unrestricted MSA track licence will be held in time for the meeting on 18/19 April. We received no such confirmation, or indeed any information, from Donington about this issue.

We cannot state with absolute certainty that a full track licence will not be held by Donington in time for the forthcoming event, but in the absence of any assurance being provided by the circuit, we regrettably conclude that we have no option but to cancel the meeting at this time. We hope that by taking this unfortunate decision we can at least provide certainty to everyone involved, so that necessary arrangements can be made.

We, like you, are very disappointed to find ourselves in this position, but hope that you will understand that this unprecedented situation is entirely beyond our control.

We are now fully focused on working with all affected series to arrange suitable alternative events.

I have made a real cock up of this. I am doing the trackday on Friday which means that I have to drive down on Thursday. How the hell did I miss that?

Plus I have not booked accommodation for Thursday night, though I do have relatives that live near by.

tut
Well I didn't spot it either I suppose ;-)

Not to worry, you have your satnav to keep you right, yes?!

You'll prob get an extra night in the Premier Inn no prob I'd have thought.

Tut

Don't book anything yet. I have a twin room booked at the Hilton (thurs, fri & sat) and I don't think Dan is going to come down until Friday morning (if at all).

I will let you know.

CURRY BOOKED

For 18 people.

At 8pm.

Here - 4550 Miles from Delhi.

And beforehand, as is tradition, you will mostly find me here - Sinatra Bar, Chapel Quarter, just up the hill from the restaurant. Probably from around 7pm.

Note, for large groups the restaurant does a fixed banquet type menu. They are usually happy to rustle up something specific for awkward types like Tut, and of course plant-eaters like Robin. But just thought I would mention that up front.

Trams from the Premier Inn hotel are approx every 20 mins.

Last tram back from town centre (Old Market Square) to hotel ("Phoenix Park") at 00.09...or you are cabbing it ;-)

That's a big disappointment about the racing, Scotty, you will be a bit frustrated having been raring to go to your first race!

I was primarily coming down to watch Scotty in his first race, but will probably end up coming down anyway for the show. As I havn't been before, what exactly does the show involve, and is it worth going to in its own right?

I've included one "spare" slot at the curry, to be fair, as there's always a straggler or two!

Paul, the show itself is quite interesting for a couple of hours or so. Blend of dealer displays, small trader displays (including engine tuners, Eliseparts, the like etc) and the unmissable auto-jumble ! I've actually picked up several useful things for my Elise over the years including new alternator at "show prices" (call it no-VAT for cash IYSWIM...)

Also usually a great Club Lotus display of cars from all vintages, and this year there is a big 340R display I here, which maybe you should find out about actually?

All in all, it's an excuse for a fun drive south, both Fri and Sat evenings are usually very pleasant for banter and catchup with old pals, and the curry is always a good un. Watching the totty teeter around central Notts is also worth its weight in gold as we stand at the tram stop ;-)

In view of the canned racing, I'm tempted to cut a quicker route south on Friday morning now, with a view to catching a couple of hours of the trackday instead. Will look into that on the route planning. Can use Sunday for a more leisurely and scenic route home I guess.

Campbell et all,

As the racing has been cancelled, which was the primary cause of me coming down, I am not going to come down now. It would have been different if I was going down in the 340 and doing the track day and runs etc, but it is not quite the same in an X5!
I am sorry to be missing out on the fabled curry night, and seeing a few old faces again, but hopefully we can do that again sometime, possibly in Scotland!

Hope you all have a good trip, and Scotty , all the best for Brands Hatch in a few weeks time!

A great pity Paul.

Thanks for letting me know. We shall miss you! Didn't realise you were X5'ing it right enough.

And so the curry headcount adjustments begin...same as every year about now ;-)

Thanks Scotty, will wait and see.

After being parked there for 25 mins, Clare called to say that Verian was at the flat. Seems that somewhere near the end of Anderson Drive, she started following another car, so she did not pass me. Gave me time to work out how the SatNav worked and the Bluetooth HFT pairing. Brilliant piece of kit, and voice activated, for any voice without training. Way better than the TomTom.
