daughter who's due to turn 16.

I was rather unimpressed at the quality.

Worthwhile alternatives at the £200 mark?

I suggested Boss/Armani but admittedly know fark all about teen fashion these days...

Watches should be made by watch makers, not clothing makers. Would you buy a DKNY car or a Gucci laptop?

The only reason to buy a fashion-brand watch is because you like the look of it. Quality vs price is f*cking hilarious on just about all of them. Expect it to last a year, and you won't be disappointed. I'm not saying don't buy one, just don't buy it because it's a good watch. Same with Boss, Armani and all the others. My £380 Boss lasted 1 month longer than the 12 month warranty and went in the bin. I wore it maybe 5 times.

Nothing wrong with that if that's what you want, but if you're after a birthday present that will last, aim squarely for a watch manufacturer, not a fashion brand.

£200 is tricky... Seiko, Citizen, maybe CW (not wild about their ladies watches)

Agree with all the above but they really have managed to sell millions of them; you see every 16-24year old bird wearing them.

The wife got asked once if her rose gold panerai was an MK, she just said no

I did suggest we looked at Citizen but got looked at like I was mad - so I'm fighting a losing battle really

On a different note, my soon to be 13 son wants a watch but is far more considered in his choosing of things....I expected a big chunky brightly coloured G-shock, but no, the bi-metal Roly Day-date caught his eye at £16k

I'm having an eBay scour; what about something like this? I'm not even twice her age but I don't know now what would pass the teenager test

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.vi ... 0718042826

Quite a few tags and omegas at that kind of money.

Thanks jj but nowhere near blingy enough.... :damnfunny

This is the offending article - which doesn't look bad in the flesh, but the bracelet is plain nasty to the touch...

Broken record, but at £200 you can't go wrong with a Tissot... Swiss made, decent movement, sapphire glass etc...

Other Swatch groups brands worth a shout too - Hamilton / Certina

If you're willing to go for secondhand / 'patinated', and pay for a similar movement in a fancy case, how about this? :P

Coincidence or what... office woman literally right now just showed off her new pink MK. F*cking hideous. So's the watch.
