Feck - I didn't think of that - they came fitted to another head I had, which with hindsight must have some heavier springs fitted ... OK, we'll need to remove the cylinder head and get some new springs, or run with different cams (nooo, that means less power) - I know you could do this with the head fitted and bits of string, etc., but too much of a faff when the engine is already out of the engine anyway.

Try it out first!

If they aren't up to it you'll get valve float. Does this actually damage anything? Surely you just get rough running and power loss?

I think it's more a problem of the springs going coil-bound before full lift...

Robin, if we need to, I can pull some Piper springs out of my old head. I could probably sort out bringing the head over (still built) for Friday, if that's still on.

Nothing but the best for the "rough love chariot" - with some input from Eliseparts and DVA the correct parts have been orderd and should be with us later this week. The best bit was, I asked the question before 8.00am and had an answer within 30 minutes - I love the way that this community is so helpful and free with their knowledge :-)

Shug if for whatever reason we get nowhere, we will take yours please - just bring over the whole head on Friday and we'll strip it then!

Cheers,
Robin

Shug: was it valve stem oil seals or knackered valves & guides that took your old head out of use?

No, it's needed for you, unless you don't want it anymore (I would be getting you another one if this goes on Andy's car ...).

Cheers,
Robin

Of course I bloody want it!!!

I'll just have to wait for the chariot of fire to be finished up first - no rush, rewards are well worth waiting for 8)

Oil seals (and the bottom end). The rest of it should be A1.

thnaks again squire!

The barge is now clam less at the rear! Another frantic nights work (only interupted by the penalty shoot out) and we now have the pesky clam free. Just about every fastener was different, but we got there eventually. Think we finished off at 12.45, and thanks to Lawrence for the loan of the engine hoist!

My garage is looking like a proper garage now
