New issue of EVO has a full performance test of winter tyres.

The performance tests are fairly subjective and I question the validity of setting 'lap times' to judge performance! :)

The results indicate that you get what you pay for but I certainly don't have any reservations after buying 'cheap' Nankan winter tyres last year which came near the bottom of the results table. In normal winter driving I found them to be excellent and the EVO results support my own conclusions:

1) Even the cheapest winter tyres are better than a summer or 'all season' tyre.
2) The performances differences between the cheapest (£90) and most expensive (~£200) winter tyres aren't huge.

If anyone wants a copy I can maybe scan & email.

Was going to mention this too, Mark, although it did put me off the Nankangs...but since we have abandoned with Winters idea for this season (MINI is the weapon of choice instead!!), I decided to go and worry about something else instead :-)

how did the goodyear ultra grip 8 do?

am still looking into this.
lack of time preventing me making a decision.

gotta decide on wheels/nuts/
and get under 700
mytyres were not helpful
so looking at dealer wheels ~ £320 + tyres from from where
Camskill doing them for ~ £302
http://www.camskill.co.uk/m95b2364s703p ... R15_91H_TL_
then need the right nuts

Thanks, I have read a lot of reviews and most of the 'press' say they are average, a lot of the personal reviews are very good.
How did you find them? Reasonable I suspect.

The Goodyear's came 4th with 89.5%, not far behind the Conti's that came 1st with 90.5%.

The Nangkan's came 8th with 82.9% but are half the price of any of the premium brands.

As I said, the tests are quite subjective and will depend upon the tyre size, the car they are fitted to and how you drive in the conditions.

I've not driven any of the premium brands but have been very impressed with the Nangkan's on my wife's Impreza (non-turbo). Maybe the 4WD makes up for any deficiencies in the tyres????

I've uploaded the EVO pages to Picasa, send me your email address and I'll send you the web link.

Yes I wouldn't leave it much later. And eventually it becomes an issue simply of lack of supply altogether, not just escalating prices!

MyTyres delivery is usually about a week.

Last year I ordered before it snowed and before they put the prices up but the tyres got stuck in the Birmingham hub due to the snow arriving two days later! :(

Click On Tyres and Camskill usually have a good selection and attractive prices too.

Mytyres have shown to be by far the best price for my size - plus Camskill (my summer tyre supplier) show most not in stock...

where do u get ur tyres fitted?

thinking of camskill - they have them in stock just now - and get wheels and nuts separately as mytyres wont say what wheels will work with my focus (there are like 1000 focus styles on their site, and an email to them came back saying "sorry, we cant help u").
