Porker lovers
Re: Porker lovers
That linkedin list has a fair amount of half truths and nonsense in it imho.
General consensus seems to be that the bearing tends to fail under 50k miles though and failure rate is 1-2%.
None of that makes a difference if your engine goes though.
Imho.. Life's to short to worry about what might go wrong with a car.... There are plenty of 996 and 997s out there and if they were as prone to faults as the internet suggests... Why have porsche sold so many?!?
At sub 10k... You're never going to 'lose' more than that. If it lasts a year or two... You'll have lost less than a new BMW 3 series will... So not that much of a gamble.
If you like it and you get the price you want... Wouldn't let worries about bearings put you off!
Cheers
Dave

The SE Porker run
Time 12/05/13 at 12:00
The rendezvous point is in the car park on the B7062 Kingsmeadow Road. To get there, cross the Tweed Bridge at the top (north end) of the High Street and the car park is on the left as the road sweeps left after the bridge.
Look forward to seeing you.

Re: Porker lovers
It was a great run today. Started out as very wet but the pace was good with light traffic. After the lunch break, the weather got a little better so the pace was upped a bit
Great to meet George and catch up with Ian. The 996 MkII GT3 was a treat to drive, thanks

Re: Porker lovers
Mass,
Thanks for organising a fantastic run, have a great time enjoying the Spyder and chatting cars with you, Ian & Dave.
Definitely got better once the roads dried up, particularly enjoyed the challenge of keeping up with you & Ian in the GT3, certainly re-affirmed that I am happy with the purchase of the Spyder. Spent a couple of minutes in the garage just enjoying the sounds of a good blast with the tinking noise in the background.
Bring on the next run and hopefully will be able to show of the better lines of a topless Spyder.
Cheers
George
Ps Dave this is where you need to go for the next Porsche

Mass,
It was definitely a good night and thanks to yourself/Iain I had the chance to enjoy both mid & rear engined pax experiences. Just hope you had enough rear tyres to get you home.
Sandra also thoroughly enjoyed herself in the C2
Cheers
George
Ps let hope you have managed to convince another S.Elise'r the joys of Porsche ownership.

Yep, I think the seed has been sown
Also got an email offer on the Spyder yesterday for £1.5k more than I paid for it. May have previously been tempted but after Sunday I let him know that he would have to go way much higher for us to even think about parting with the car.
Just as we'll I did not look at this before I said no:

Re: Porker lovers
Thoughts on N rated tyres?
Does it matter?
Porker just cost £955 (incl VAT) for a major service
£375 fixed price major
£75 for brake fluid
£95 for spark plugs
Then they notice cracks in coil pack..£237
Advisories were two tyres.

N rated does not matter
A Porsche development for extracting more money out of you
I am currently on N rated at £315 @ corner
The same tyres without N rating would be around £200 per corner

Re: Porker lovers
As Iain says, 'N' rated does not matter. All it means is that Porsche have worked in partnership with the tyre supplier to develop the tyres and optimise for their vehicles and go through testing: http://www.porschemag.com/render.cfm?so ... %20RatingsGareth wrote:Thoughts on N rated tyres?

Don't know whether your Porsche is new/old but the older it gets the less relevant it is.
