The newspaper helped out those muggers who where a bit slow can't remember the paper but it said "kilmarnock man Jim Smith* from barbados rd withdrew £40k, his life savings"GregR wrote:I'm surprised there haven't been more roberies in the vicinity of NR branches... especially given all the pensioners walking out with thoosands!

I just stay away from shares completely now. Even when I get a result it turns out sh1t. My company went through a bad period on the stock market a few years back and the share price fell to appriox $1 on NYSE. I bought about a grands worth at that point thinking they can either go up or we get bought over.GregR wrote:uh oh! Thankfully some got out when they could!

Sold them a couple of months later for about $3.5 per share. Nice, I thought. They started this year at approx $13 per share and we are now in the process of getting bought over by a private consortium at $17.5 per share.... we did I sell... why...
I have no signature.
LOL you have my share dealing skill. I had BA , Rolls Royce , Amvescap at the bottom of the market in 2002 , if I had held on I would have made a killing in relative safe shares with dividends . No muggins goes down the High risk oil and gas routegorrie wrote:I just stay away from shares completely now. Even when I get a result it turns out sh1t. I dabble a bit with share dealing and day trading as an occasional hobby to see if I can get some money in the car-fund pot. Some days are good, some days are less good and some days I wish I hadn't turned on the pc. I am sure the NR situation will be interesting for 50% of folk to look back on and see where they made a killing whilst the other 50% look back and see where they lost their shirt. Think I will watch this one from the sidelines

Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Wanted: Train.
for those interested in trading I've interviewed this guy, Mark Shipman, in the past and his book seems amazing...

Have no shares, no investments, no savings, no rich relatives about to die, but the one thing I am glad I dont have anymore is a mortgage
Just got my student loan through but they have no chance of ever getting that back off me.
I d rather be healthy than wealthy. Yet two more rich folk that I have met have recently went to their graves before reaching 50. Too much stress worrying about their fortunes
I did have a credit card with the company that went bust a few years ago and had about £600 in debt wiped off my slate so sometimes you can be a winner.
Quite agree that the press has a lot to answer for in this story, and most others for that matter.

Hope those who bought shares when they dropped originally to a couple of quid, in the hope the price would bounce back medium-long term didn't invest their life-savings.
Shares dipped to 60p yesterday, but rallied a little to close still under £1 (after a year high of £12+)
Talk yesterday was of a potential buyer, after everyone else having a sniff decided they didn't want it.
However, they would pay only a 'nominal price' for the shares, so investors would likely lose out.

The markets simply reflect what people will pay for the shares. Conspiracy theories are always amusing but rarely trueBiggestNizzy wrote:As I see it the "markets " are delibratly forceing the price down so it gets snapped up and the big wizz city types can make a killing on a profitable buisness currently the company is worth only slightly mor ethan it's yearly operating profits!
