You may well struggle to push the car backwards in first gear (and to be fair, it's not a great idea to do that), but you could push it forwards.
But you've started the engine so it cannot be in gear.
Are we sure the clutch is engaging/disengaging properly?
The starter motor won't be what's making the clicking noise, it'll be the engine itself.
Now that you have it running I would suggest doing some driving and then park it up somewhere flat in neutral and check that you can push it both ways.

Most people would say yes, but I've charged so many cars without disconnecting anything that I wouldn't expect a problem . . . in theory if the battery has certain faults (say an internal mechanical or cell failure which means it's open circuit for example) you could damage things like the radio or other electronics, but these days I doubt it . . . I'd say you were safe enough leaving everything connected . . .

Surely if there were any problems the fuses would protect the radio etc? I've never disconnected the battery to charge it.
