Yep, what's next sir? Unfortunately my 320 isn't for sale yet, only had it 3 months but if you are interested in a nearly new one BMW seem to be offloading 150 or so a month through BCA Edinburgh. I have most of the hammer prices for the last ones

So THAT's why I always just trade my car in at the stealer and take the hit.

The last car I sold was ages ago and during the test drive the guys tells me he's been banned from driving but he and his mate were buying it to run about in. He DID buy it though, then arrived with £50 less cash than agreed. Needless to say he never got sent the spare keys/alarm disable key etc

Lisa yearns for a Beemer although she's now on 5 series M-sport Tourings (!). Having got exactly what we wanted for the Golf, her hopes were high.

However, with a recession-busting hat on, it's going to be a Skoda Octavia vRS diesel estate, 1-2 years old max, almost certainly via the Skoda dealer network for ease of searching and some sense of confidence in the product etc. Have 5 candidate cars to throw at a dealer to seek out tomorrow

We just can't get past the combination of value for money, performance, relative luxury and especially a 560 litre boot...for a car that's essentially a stretched Mk5 Golf underneath and has most of the same switches inside as our Mk4

The beemer will have to wait 3-4 years...if Lisa goes back to work after a planned couple of years out when the kids start school, she can have one! If she doesn't...she'll need to make do with the Skoda until it gives up! Which is the other reason we are getting one. Have you noticed what most of the private taxi drivers are running...that's right. Octavias (or Superbs) of all vintages. They just go on for ever.

Looking at this from the other side at the moment as well.
I sent an email to a guy asking some fairly specific questions about the service history of his car. All nice and polite etc and gave my phone number so he could call or at least get some indication I was being genuine.

Got a call within the hour offering 8k off the asking price if I could do a deal before the end of the month as he couldn't afford the next finance payment. Scary stuff.

Think I would be a bit worried about what other economy measures might have been taken with it.
It's probably more common than I realised. I called about a car at a Specialist Dealer which they were advertising on SOR and after a chat, the salesman apologised for being slightly vague about the cars' availability and eventually said that the seller had quite a bit of outstanding finance on the car, which was why he was wanting to sell the car, but that he had been turned down for finance on his next car so didn't want to sell and end up without a flash car. Worlds gone mad!!

On the flipside, I advertised my missus' Freelander on eBay and it was gone within 24 hours with no fuss and a big wad of cash. Which she promptly spent!

I would be worried that any deal where the seller can't afford the finance payments might result in them not paying the car off and you have a car that the finance company has an interest in a panic sale at cheap price has 2 possibilities - bargain or nightmare.
