Disco won't give 35 to the gallon but a freelander will!
My brother has a fully spec'd one and it's great!

I suspect a 4x4 is out as Ryannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn already has one.
Focus ST estate, i3s and more pushbikes than strictly necessary.

If you mean the diesels, you should find that the latest 170PS common rail offering from VAG is streets ahead. Am thrilled that we found one of those in our Octavia (as opposed to the preceding 170PS PD version), it's like driving a non-turbo car in terms of smoothness but the torques are there in spades right up to the "redline"Dominic wrote:
'Rocco is a good shout, try a few. The 140BHP may be a nicer drive than the mega turbo laggy 170bhp,... (if they are anything like the dismal golfs). While mentioning golfs, it is the same car as the the 'rocco, with added practicality, but less style.

That may explain things; drove a 170 about 3 years ago; did not like it; then drove a 140 about 6 months ago, and was quite impressed.campbell wrote:If you mean the diesels, you should find that the latest 170PS common rail offering from VAG is streets ahead. Bingo.
There is quite extensive debate around this on the Briskoda forums. I read it with great anxiety around the time we were changing our PD 150 Golf for what I *hoped* would be a CR 170 engine in the Octavia. On one hand we liked the "push in the back" of the Golf engine, and many on the forum said they missed that aspect of the CR.
But I think on reflection I'm very glad we got a CR-engined car, as the delivery truly is silky smooth (for a 4-pot diesel especially...none of that V6 nonsense here!!) and it is vastly more "driveable" as a result.
Our tame racing driver McApe had a shottie even before it was run-in (yikes) and was also suitably impressed. Or so Lisa told me

Re: and another what car thread!.....
its true. Great engine, great chassis, and a decent number of toys.

Agree with the CR debate, noticed the lack of turbo kick but actually no slower and much smoother. I'm so middle aged, guess I'm going to die at 50campbell wrote:Bingo.
