Living-room petrolheads must wait a little longer...

A GranTurismo in, er, Gran TurismoGran Turismo 5 is vying for the dubious honour of 'most delayed computer game ever', with news that its latest scheduled release date of early November has been pushed back to 'sometime before Christmas'.

The eagerly anticipated fifth iteration of the iconic PlayStation racing simulator had originally been slated for release in summer 2008, then March 2010, then November.

With such delays, one can't help but draw odd parallels between Kazunori Yamauchi, GT's creator and a legendary petrol head, and Guns 'N' Roses frontman Axl Rose - whose last album, Chinese Democracy, took almost a decade to complete. Let's hope Yamauchi-san doesn't take that long. Although from the sound of it, he's pretty embarrassed about the whole thing.

"Apologies for the delay," said Yamauchi via Twitter. "It's because time and labour were spent ironing the kinks out of [the game's] complex system. I'm really sorry. Everyone, it's inexcusable... Wait a little longer."

Ordered the box section today, ready for collection on Monday morning.

Enough to make 2 Gaming Seats, £50.
I got the plates (foot plate, Top etc) made for free but doubt i can get another 5 sets. They cost me £50 for a set (water jet cut). Maybe see if i can get them made local for cheaper. Nizzy ??

The expensive part is the seat, looking at a Corbeau Forza at £125. Prefer the Cobra Monaco but it's £165....

I'll make my one (prototype) and see how much it would cost me to make you lot a frame only (pre drilled/jigged for one of those seats).

Alan

P.S Made from 40 mm x 40 mm x 4mm box section, so even Mckean won't brake it.

:popcorn

I'm sure we could cut some reasonably well with a gas cutter, or even an angle grinder for the complete pikey effect. Wouldn't compare with a water jet cut plate but it would be functional.

Fanatec make Porsche replica wheels (Mr G) the even do them in automotive quality leather. When looking at prices, keep in mind pedals and shifters are seperate :thumbsup

I was just about to post that. Also Gran Turismo on the PSP was supposed to be a launch game I reckon, making it much longer in development than GT5. Turned out to be fairly mediocre too, though I suppose with the lack of 2 analogue controls it's not suprising really.

Alan

I bought a cobra car seat of the 'bay for about £50 quid. Could you not get something similar from a breakers from say an MR2 or something?

It's almost identical to this but dark blue

I use Pro Engineer and Hypershot Bunkspeed to render.

Thought I could count on Chris to find the cheapest seat available :D , i really fancy a proper car one though. I'm keeping my eye out for a good used one but they all look a bit rough around the edges.

It has to be mm perfect (OCD), otherwise I aint doing it. I also only have one hand so quite happy doing the drawings and paying someone to water jet them. I can weld fine with my cast on :thumbsup

I want to make the best one I can, think it's time for a build diary.

Alan

P.S i'll post up all the drawings if someone wants to have a go.

I didn't do much searching tbh Alan, from my Mini days, Midland Wheels advertise in both the Mini magazines and i've always considered one of the smaller black vinyl classic looking seats for a gaming set up as I think as proper full on race seat indoors will look a bit much.

I'm not that cheap either, as I said previously, I have a http://wheelstandpro.com/ which is probably what you should replicate. they are damn expensive and I reckon probably wouldn't be too hard to make cheaper, plus they ship them out from Poland!

(I do love a bargain though)

At the moment, i'm liking the plan of a seat that folds to aid storage rather than a fixed back, but then I don't have the space, nor the cash for a seat AND a wheel, and my old Logitech Driving Force (GT3 wheel!) isn't really going to cut it.

Got a PS3 out of Sainsburys on Thursday.
Along with it came a till receipt voucher for £3.00 off GT5, release date on it 05/11/2010. Game.co.uk still lists release for 12/2010. Sainburys voucher is only valid until 24/11/2010.
No, No! not Bloke. It's pronounced Black, as in Plaque

It's currently saying that the online stuff is not available. I'm hoping that's just due to the fact official launch is tomorrow... and it'll be OK from midnight. My gamertag is 'gorrieman' if anyone wants to add me.
Just had a very quick shot in Arcade mode (I'm meant to be working), liking the changeable weather conditions. Hopefully get some time to get in to proper A-Spec mode tonight.
