If you go out to socialise with your friends, you'll slip on the pavement or need winter tyres - what are you going to do without the knowledge on SE
This is my day off - what am I doing spending most of it on here

Right. Greg.
Mr Momo. All my friends are virtual now. What am I going to do if I go out somewhere?!
Everyone. Now can we all laugh at the Welsh and the Irish, who are getting blobbed by the white stuff now too.
And it's the turn of Southern England tomorrow

The Fylde coast (Preston>>Blackpool) is, as normal, just going to be miserable and cold, no interesting weather at all again by the look of it...

Re: Winter tyres. Discuss.
Well had my winter tyres on for a few days and noticed the difference in grip straight away. Everything is improved in everyway over the summer tyres.
The Europa is my daily driver so for me the outlay was a no brainer and the fact I can get up and down the steep hill leading to where I live, which was totally covered in snow yesterday morning. So tyres were worth every penny I spent on them.
I plan to leave them on until March/April time before switching back to summers.

Re: Winter tyres. Discuss.
I've had my winters on now since the start of November and I've seen no increase in fuel consumption and a massive increase in grip in the snow/slush/standing water I've encountered since fitting them.
As you said Campbell, the extra outlay is minimal and over time will really boil down to what I paid for the spare alloys (about £250 including a refurb).
I think if people were educated that winter tyres provide more grip in all conditions during a typical British winter, and are not just to stop you getting stuck in the occassional dump of snow we get, lots more people would use them.
I personally don't think they are essential in this country and if I did not have a rear wheel drive car with wide wheels I probably wouldn't have tried them. But now that I have tried them I will be getting a set for the wifes (FWD) car too for next winter.
The difference in grip for starting, stopping and cornering is quite significant and anything that reduces the chances of my wife and daughter being involved in an accident is well worth a small outlay.

Impreza Turbo 2000 AWD 5dr thing with an exhaust that a family of badgers could live in
Its in cracking shape , and quite enjoying having a shed that has some heritage.
Clare is also safe as houses in the Rangie, so she's happy
