WOW so many responses,cheers guys!!

ok,i checked out the bell college course and you have to have qualifications that i sadly don't have
though i'm still going to investigate more into it.

THinfourth....thanks for the advice, given me lots to consider and i would LOVE a PAX in the seven.
i would really be interested in both hillclimbs, sprints and auto testing...just tell me what i have to do.would any more experienced drivers be willing to 'take me under their wing' so to speak?!?!?hints and tips etc. :D

the caterham academy sounds a great idea, read about it in EVO as they still do it down south, though at the mo i don't have much tech knowledge and i'd prefer to get more tech and driving knowledge before i tried that
BUTits defo something i'd be interested in after a while.

digital....think i used to see you post on type-r-scotland didnt i?
enjoying the VX?

cheers again guys, see some of you on thursday :D

As a 'mature' (ie, not 16) student, there will be more leeway. Speak to the course leader, as Dom suggested. 8)

I'd advise going down the apprenticeship route, you get paid for it (not much) but it's better than paying for tuition - much more of a hands on approach than a class. And if you find the right place there might even be no neds!

Do garages still do apprenticeships? I did two years of mine before jacking it in and going back to university to learn about 'puters'n'stuff. TBH it was soul destroying, but I guess it wouldn't be if it were something more motor-sport-ish ... anyway, my advice (having done some of all of these things) is to go as far as you can in mainstream education. So if you can blag your way onto a university (or other higher education) course (which as a mature student is easier than you might think), do it!

Being grown up will force itself upon you in due course, so no rush to get there (jobs, children, mortgages, ...) and if by some chance you manage to bypass it completely then well done!

Cheers,
Robin

haha i suppose so,
i'm just out of a serious relationship at the moment and now i can commit to all the things i couldn't when i was with my girlfriend.
e.g going to knockhil whenever i want, spending all cash on the car etc..though she did want me to buy an exige!!!
miss her like crazy though....just tryin to keep busy at the mo.

I don't think you're classed as a mature student until you're 25. :?

Hi Dean,

yep, I occasionally still post over on TRS :) The VX is great, enjoying it a lot so far, but still miss the Teg, especially when this month Evo are raving about it once more...

Exige (S2) is the long term plan for me, couldn't stretch to one this time around, but the VX will do me a while yet. If you get a ride in an Exige you'll be hooked :D

Couldn't find anything on Google about the Caterham series in recent years, it used to be sponsored/run by Glenvarigill, hand't realised that it had ended though. Seemed like a good combination of races/sprints/hillclimbs.

The caterham series lasted 1 year and then went belly up. It was not too good as there was 6 cars 3 ex karters who were damn fast and took it far too seriously, then there was a guy who owned a garage and was a bit slow, Another guy who had been hillclimbing and sprinting before. Then there was the wild card entry from TSE team scottish elises the great Rossini. It was a fun year especially the croft event where a load of folk came down in suppport and i acted as support vehicle.

Image

Note blue car is race car brown car support car. While others turned up with trailers camper vans and Gordon Sheddon as race mentor.

After that one season it died a death.

Out of the southern caterham series there has only 1 driver that has even made it slightly big and he got a drive at le mans in a morgan but not on a paid basis. So if you are wanting to become a paid driver you are better entering the forumla ford series where you will need loads of money and loads of talent. Especially when you are racing against little tarquin whose daddy is a millionare and if you get in his way he will punt you off as he has a spare car back at the transporter.

If it is cars that are your passion then maybe consider trying to become a salesman or if it is the oily bits you like then consider being an engineer of some sort. Another idea is think about RAF as i would love to be able to move over to aero engineeering. For advice on this ask richard and come along to the cloak and dagger.

As to your PM asking about autotesting and sprinting ask in a public forum as folk that know more then me will pop up and say hello.

Still not too sure if i am going thursday but if i do and you spot a little brown 7 i will happily take you for a blast.
