Watercannon - everyone gets wet and cold and goes home, fires get put out.

Are they letting this boil over to let some steam out of the situation ? If so, I'd be well hacked off if I was a business owner or had property damaged.

No excuses.

Totally agree.

Rubber bullets too.

IMO the job of the police is to protect the public, and this isn't happening, so time to bring in the army, if that's what is required to gain some form of control.

It is difficult to know who to believe.

It is hard to trust the Met given their recent and not so recent track record. They seem easily able to control MASSIVE demonstrations and yet utterly unable to control a small number of looters. Eyewitnesses say they called the Police to report looters setting fire to buildings and then waited for an hour with no Police and no Fire Brigade. Seriously WTF?
I call the Police to say someone is setting fire to the house next door I expect a fuccing coach load of cops poste haste.
What do you mean you have run out of cops FFS!!!

Troops are not a good idea, they do not have the training for civil unrest, people would die.

Also I have a fired baton round in the loft, I'll find it later, you might change your mind when you see it.

water cannon with nice permanent dye is the way forward, unlikely to kill anyone and its hard to fight when you are soaking wet and freezing cold!

then over the coming weeks find all those covered in said dye, take their details and tell them that their 'fine' will be in the post.
Once all the damage is tallied up, send out the 'fines' evenly distributed amongst those that have been dye'd and caught..... getting a £10,000 fine may make them think twice about doing it again.

suppose it sounds good in my ideal world but I guess they'd just go unpaid

Troops are probably a bad idea. Water cannons with dye are the next step, followed by rubber bullets.

There is nothing rubber about rubber bullets... they are about 1.5" by 3" and are made of a nylon type material.
They are classed as 'less-lethal' I seem to remember, also they are not much of a threat to a large determined crowd as a lot can't be fired for political reasons...
Water cannon can get all of them at once and means they are more inclined to go home, followed by CS gas.

Mags can confirm that I correctly predicted the return of the Tottenham riots of the 80's or something like this last year in when the new government was formed . . It was only a matter of time this would happen.... with the savage cutbacks in government spending the police included.. at least Lady Maggie had the sence to beef up the police in the 80's. It all has an effect on growing youth unemployment, bordom, disillusionment etc.
This police shooting correct or other wise ....was the wick to the situation time bomb, it isn't an excuse for riots and looting however with pissed of youths and now organised looting gangs with instant comunication :|,behind most of this its up to the police to come to grips with this sorry situation..

However I guess the police will rack up a few quid in overtime wilst thinking about what to do, just like they did in the miners strike costing us all saddly.

If the police can not cope, and looking at the news this morning it has now spread to the extent that 6,000 of them were not enough, then troops should be ordered in. The priority now should be protecting the public and their property. One area was being wrecked and the police were not able to get there within two hours.

Most insurance companies exclude riots from their cover so have a nice let out, so the baby shop owner whose place was trashed will not even get it replaced. Most Western country's would have had the Army out by now, the Eastern block and Asian cities would have had them out almost straight away. I have a good idea of the results of a Poll asking if we were concerned about rioters being hit by rubber bullets, especially by the Londoners down there. We happily used them in Ireland when I was there. We are sitting hundreds of miles away safely watching it on TV.

It has got the state now that whatever measures needed to stamp it out are taken, regardless of the effect it has on the rioting thugs. If they realised that they are liable to get severely hurt they may get the message, as without the security of hunting in packs, individually most of them would be cowards.

ps what happened to not using tear gas as a starter?

just kill them.
i mean, they dont contribute in a positive way to the economy or society. they are causing many people to lose their way of life that they have eeked out little by little day by day. they are a minority of thugs. we would not miss them.
get the cameras out of sight and go in and blitz the lot of them.
job done.

Well at least that would free up cells in prisons.
