Time to get the SE stress ball out I think...

A very genuine question from Robin and we can now all get the benefit of a sensible response thanks to Craig should we find ourselves in that unusual situation. :thumbsup

Well that would seem to answer the very reasonably asked question.

Regardless of who asked the question originally, it was a reasonable question asked reasonably which got some very unreasonable replies. How odd.

Just to reiterate what I said earlier and which Shug has already commented on.

People who work in high stress environments need to have consistently good people skills. Pilots, in an emergency, do not start shouting at each other. Nor do Air traffic controllers (for example).
In fat those professions practice and train in their people skills, so this sort of thing does not happen!

The idea that people who are good in emergencies are those that start shouting and running round is farcical - the people you want are those who remain calm and logical. Especially because in some professions (as Shug mentions) what most people consider to be a high stress event happens many times a day.

But of course sometimes people do lose their temper, sometimes people have bad days, sometimes the wrong people end up the wrong jobs. But if ever anyone starts shouting at you during the course of their job it is rarely a good sign.

I'd have thought it would make sense to train ambulance drivers to abandon quickly in such a way that they do NOT block the road where possible.

I'm not saying they should spend 5 minutes parallel parking, but surely 5 seconds nosing the ambulance into a space at an angle (or reverse for easy rear door access) would be in their best interests too, since a blocked road is clearly not in their interest.
Obviously circumstances differ.

In this case, I see no reason for the 'professional' to act in such a manner.

Actually, I had an experience with a rude ambulance driver years ago. I was 17 and walking to high school. I crossed the road, maybe cutting it a bit fine, but not like running in front of a car.
The white VW Scirocco mk2 beeped and driver waving at me.
I walked on.
2 minutes later, the same car had driven around the block, pulled over, driver out, stands very close to me with an aggressive stance and with a prod to the shoulder, gives me a lecture about him being an ambulance driver, and the dangers of crossing the road unsafely.
He didn't take too kindly to me pointing out that whilst his 'rocco was white, it had no blue lights on it, and that he was driving too quickly, and should have slowed down, and not driven over the top of the mini round about, giving me time to cross safely /cheeky but true teenager faction

To this day, I see no excuse for his behaviour either.

Maybe bullies do good ambulance drivers make*

Chris

*Disclaimer - I am in no way saying that all ambulance drivers are bullies, but am simply drawing a basic conclusion based on the limited data presented in this thread, for the sake of humour - something this thread is sorely in need of. I apologise for any ambulance drivers around here that I may offend, and whilst we all hope to never meet you (in a good way of course), appreciate the work you do.

Cheers. Most unexpected and personal response considering our recent history and the fact that despite several requests I never publicly said that it was from n1 that the stones where thrown at my car at the amp3 day.
Ill try and avoid all the crap you throw out of your roof that wrecked the front/side and windscreen of my car next time Im behind you at knockhill.
Will miss all your driving advice though. Keep up the old sage lectures and quality driving.

Enough guys - personal stuff not required or remotely in keeping with the charter.

I'd genuinely appreciate both comments being pulled pending a decision from the moderators on whether we delete them anyway for breaching the charter.

I meant no generalisation (surely i'd have to say that ALL ambulance drivers are bullies, or vice versa), anyway, it wasn't meant to throw fuel on the fire (that's the wrong emergency service), and was said more in jest.

Personally, I fail to see how 2 of you drawing attention to the comment is helpful in any way.
Edited my post to explain what I thought was pretty clearly a joke.

People need to lighten up a little around here <- that is a sweeping generalisation..

something that should have been said on the original post if not brought up at the time.

SE does my head in for being to polite and sweeping thing under the carpet.

Mikey's remark is hardly under the carpet?

But are you saying we just let the place descend into anarchy?

I thought it was common decency to be polite to friends and acquaintances. I thought that was what we had within SE. Am I missing something?

What happened to Mike happened over 6 months ago. Maybe you should talk to your fellow mods and ask how it was handled then.

What happened to mikes car was maybe a very foolish mistake, but how he was treated in the paddock and then everything that wasnt said on here was very far from friendly.

Amirite, or am I missing some key point that makes sense of all his 'banter'?

Reminds me of that wee retard at school who had to think he knew everyone and have a smug line for everything - usually had weaseled his way in with some mental big lad so he didn't just go around getting the sh*t kicked out of him. The sort of twat that just tries to wear away at you and get a reaction for the sake of it. Gotta be some issue there to crave attention like that...

Meh, maybe it's just an over reaction on my part - I've never liked the guy from the minute he walked into SE and fcuk only knows why he keeps coming back....

The fact is this place has become a joke with its horrible back stabbing comments. Fair amount of bullying too.
Colin the plumber being one. Yes he drives like a fool on the road but those that abused him were guilty of doing the same.
Not in the gang you can fcuk off. Hidden sales pitches....if someone hasn't done a racing series, they're useless on track.
Of course there's some good guys on here....but some need to "check yourself before you wreck yourself."
