Love the commentators comments "he has spun it completely and come to an abrupt halt" while it was still in the air  .

Talking of which the hire caterhams are all SV's , I take it they don't differ much in there driving style to a normal 7

Having a 7 on your driving CV is recommended. There is nothing like it

I'm going back at some point - may be a R600 road version :thumbsup

Well well, never realised the SV was longer as well as wider. Always thought it was just wider. You live and learn :thumbsup .

For me there just isn't enough car, strong they may be but I wouldn't want to put that to the test.

:withstupid

I thought they were just wider too - actually looks like a scaled up version of the original in almost every way.

Another point to bear in mind (if applicable) is the next to zero depreciation (and appreciation in some cases).

Example -

This car

Is pretty much the same spec as mine, but mine is three years younger.
I paid £14k for mine near enough 7 years ago.

Also my insurance from REIS is less than £300 a year including 4 free track days.

That car is actually only about 5 months younger than my first Caterham which was exact same spec except mine had the benefit of a 6 speed box, which I sold nearly 10 years ago for £12,250

Well hired a Caterham roadsport at the weekend to get a feel for them and spent Saturday and Sunday with friends around the north of Scotland. We covered about 400 miles in 2 days in all sorts of conditions and different roads, picked up the caterham from Elgin and then headed to Tongue on the Saturday night and then round to Ullapool on the Sunday and back over to Elgin.

Have just re read all the previous posts and the advice was pretty much spot on, it was extremely hardcore and uncompromising, felt very exposed in it and really is only a toy. Now i imagine it would be great fun on track but when you were on an undulating single track road because you were so low you had no idea if another car was coming over the brow of the hill or if the road was going dart left or right. On the run up to Tongue i just let my friend in his M coupe go in front so that i could get a point of reference.

Had more fun on the Sunday when the weather brightened up and the road from Ullapool to inverness was wider and opener, allowing me to push on a bit. Could go an but basically had fun but was quite glad to hand the keys back and jump back into the evora for the trip home from Elgin.

Shame the weather wasn't with you :( . They're hardcore at the best of times, in the cold and wet the pleasure reduces to heart stopping stress  But as least it's one more ticked off the list.
