Great video appart from the obvious outcome. :(

Looks like she clipped some gravel/dust on the right just before the kerb starts (there is a fair dip there too which would've unsettled the car) whilst on the brakes which sent the car sideways slightly , well caught, then a tank slapper the other way, probably still struggling with the dirt on the tyres. Really unlucky and if it wasn't for the sausage kerb it would've been nothing. :(

The corner drops steeply and off camber there.
Looks like the car oversteered, gripped n flipped. Had a similar moment there before. Not a nice feeling.

something along those lines.... but the inside (passenger) 2 wheels clipping the raised kerb pitched the slide into the air

Fee - you were pretty ballsy into Clarks I'll give you that :D

Looking at VBOX data comparing your laps to David (R400) and Graham (Noble) you make up a heap of time on them both round the curve on railway straight (into clarks) - Much later on the brakes and then latch on to match their exits (all beat it using more exit kerb  grass/gravel)

full laps, and with lap delta

I think this is where it went a bit wrong... the speed pics up for a fraction of a secend before slowing slowing then G's flapping all over the place (Roll)

Image

Read text for the data. Showing 7G at that point but peak is over 20G (twenty times the force of gravity.... surely thats just a spike :O )

Comparison of railway straight (curve) and entry to clarks for 3 laps in qualy - Red being the 'one'

I can't believe that they have been allowed to install kerbs that could invoke that- wtf?

ps- David & Noble chap - i think you have just been told where you are losing a heap of time! Need to take a brave pill before the next event. :thumbsup

The advantage of the caterham is the weight. Use it to decrease the braking distance and increase the cornering speed. This should take seconds off the lap time :cheers

As I'm finding out, cars of similar power-to-weight ratio, but achieving it from different directions, are not equal. Reducing weight is not the same as adding power as you need power overcome drag and drag is much the same for a light or heavy car so more BHP wins. On a light car traction and braking and cornering are much the same as a heavy car provided the heavy car has brakes, tyres, and suspension designed for the job. If anything the heavy car has an advantage at high speed as aerodynamic and bump issue are proportionally less. A Caterham can be quick when compared to road cars, but once your up against purpose built machinery then it's another story. That not to say my run was anything as quick as the R400 is capable of (ther's probably another two seconds there) but I know Fee and the Noble could be quicker too.

My caterham is at least 3 seconds faster than the club racer. The top speeds were very similar but the differences were made in the braking n corners.

The Noble has well over 500 BHP and 195 MPH top speed and still fits in Class B (301-400 WHP/tonne). It is meaningless to compare lap times with a it as it was going 20 MPH faster down the straights and even if I could beat it in the braking zones and corners (and that would be a challenge) it would nowhere near compensate for the straight-line speed.

The argument that a lighter car cannot keep up with a heavier more powerful car.
