I think it makes sense to separate the car from the dealer's antics - I am sure the car is great, and given the opportunity to own one second hand down the line sometime I would seriously consider it. I wouldn't buy one new, obvz.

Cheers,
Robin

It's the reason I will never buy another Porsche, if it was the last car maker on earth I would rather walk, I think they are just full of dog **** as a company and completely up their own ar5e,
Well put.

Begs the question, how do they operate their service and parts departments too?

While I can understand the appeal of porches for the masses, generally they are not my cup of tea, although I probably would not say no to one or two select models from over the years. I can't help but think that a porsche is the obvious / default choice of poseurs who want a sports car. While they do make some great drivers' cars from time to time for the enthusiast, the poseur image thing turns me off.

I don't think it's too fair to pin this on Porsche. They set a fair RRP price and a limited production run. The market did the rest. Individuals (including some dealership owners acting as private buyers, I hear) have realised that the market price is likely to be much higher than RRP for the GT4, and have acted accordingly.

Does it upset the genuine few who wanted a GT4 to drive but lost out to speculators? Totally. But what incentive does the dealer (not Porsche, but the OPC) have to sell a car they want back next week to somebody they think will keep it for 3 years?

Best tactic might actually be to nudge-nudge-wink-wink the dealer so they *think* they'll get it back with 50 miles on the clock, then keep it!

Oh please, Porsche knows exactly what is going on, why else limit the production run. I am guessing here but it probably helps sales of the lesser models, sorry sir no GT4's left, oh well I suppose i'll just have a Cayman S then.

Probably a fair summary there,

I was speaking to a local detailer who had a GT4 in, the customer didn't even know his was guards red and not the other one, his mate had just told him to buy it and he would make good money on it!

I Love the GT4 - if I could afford one id snap it up (if there was ever one available)!

However, having been lucky enough to spend a weekend driving a new Cayman S, I really don't think you need much more (on the road anyway) so if you couldn't get a GT4 and the local dealer offered you the alternative of an S or a GTS then it wouldn't be a bad thing at all!

I guess you have to keep in mind that 90% of their customer base wouldn't get much benefit from the more expensive GT4 over an S or GTS anyway

I tried to order a new GT4 as well as upgrading the current Mrs Boag's Cayenne...........but it never transpired.
I also got involved in a deal which would have seen me getting a Cayman GTS when the owner took delivery of his GT4 as a fall back strategy.
The prospective owner was told there had been a mistake in the allocation and he would not be getting one after all.
I guess it was not to be!
I agree with the earlier sentiment that it seems hardly credible that Porsche UK allow OPCs to have used cars advertised at £40k over list.
I also agree that for most people a Cayman S/GTS will tick most of the boxes...........and if it does not..... the fitting of a lightened flywheel, titanium exhaust and after market aero will not add up to £40k.
All this coupled with the knowledge that the GT4 will deliver a harsh ride and a fear of scraping on every pothole, incline and speed bump in comparison to the more pliant GTS.

The OPC's have certainly changed their tunes recently - my boss is an avid Porsche fan and has raced in the Carrera Cup series for a number of year. As such he often got the nod on the new GT3's and RS models from Porsche Edinburgh.

They were bought on the proviso he was a good customer, raced the cars etc and he got them solely on the agreement he didn't flip them as they had a number of very good customers who wanted to buy the cars on the waiting list who were disappointed they missed out.

My boss on a couple of occasions just sold them on pretty quickly for profit which pissed off the salesman who had pushed for him to get one in the first place

However they seem to actively promote that now - my pal (probably same guy Greg R knows) as he picked his new one up was offered about £100k from the OPC - he was told to stick a 1,000 miles or so on it and they would instantly buy it back off him and sell it as a used car. Unfortunately for the OPC he has fallen in love with it and I cant see him selling it any time soon

I love the look of it and would have one at the retail price - could never pay that much over the odds for a second hand car

Straying away from topic slightly, but I bet for 90% of GT4 buyers, the new 2.5T Cayman S with PDK will be just as quick across real roads..

It will probably be quicker but it's not all about speed it's the whole package and the heritage that goes with the GT badge as well as the looks etc...
