Brexit.
Re: Brexit.
The Scottish hate the Conservatives. Had the Westminster Government been Liberal with widespread liberal values across Society akin to the Nordic countries there wouldn't be a cry for freedom. They can make all sorts of existential arguments about independence and the right to plough your own furrow but it boils down to hating the Tories.

Re: Brexit.
I was just in Tesco with Verian when the cashier asked the foreign couple in front of me if they needed help packing their bags.
I thought, bloody hell!, that started quicker than I expected.

I have read with great interest this whole chat/forum thread.
One thing I don't understand about your first minister is
She wishes to have Scotland as an independent country, but demands that Scotland remains in the EU.
This I do not understand, can some one help me please??
Being part of the EU ultimately means you do as you are told, pay what you are told and become more and more part of Europe, so not independent really(IMHO)
Like I say not trying to be smart or cause trouble Im genuinely interested
Why the union with the rest of the U.K. is so abhorrent but the union with Europe is so important I would love to find out.
I suspect the real answer is that being in the EU isn't genuinely important to her, it's just being used as a tool to whip up more feelings of injustice and help achieve the ultimate (and only) ambition of independence from the rest of the U.K.

And she's probably hoping for some EU bailouts when Scotland's economy fails after going independent.Stevoraith wrote:I think the majority on here are struggling with that question too.seriouslylotus wrote:Please forgive me for asking and I DO NOT wish to start a sh*t fight......

Eh, an independent Scotland as part of the EU is recognised as a sovereign nation ... as part of the UK we are not.

Re: Brexit.
This sovereign nation nonsense is something that seems to have suddenly come from nowhere.
Does anyone really give a flying monkey if their country is a sovereign nation? Is it more important than being a prosperous nation with a stable economy?
How many people actually even know what being a sovereign nation means? It's right up there with the other meaningless slogans adopted by the 'leave' campaign such as 'take back our country' and 'take control of our borders'.

Re: Brexit.
Reading an article in the Independent and it may not be a done deal yet. The prime minister, whoever he/she will be, will have to introduce into parliament the European communities repeal bill which then has to be voted on by the house of commons. Nothing says they have to pass the bill if it is in the best interests of the country.
No idea how true this is, makes a bit of a mockery of this and any other referendum if it is.

Let the Populace decide on a major complex decision such as this and you have your result.
