We often seem to get their cast off weather 2-3 weeks later.

The nice weatherman on the Beeb explained last night that yes, we will get this storm (the jetstream drags them across the northern Atlantic). But, that same ocean is currently at its warmest temp of the year (the gulfstream flows up into it, as most probably already know) so it warms the air significantly as it crosses and the storm will simply dump rain on us.j2 lot wrote:Gareth wrote:Well if NY has snow...we're not far behind!Sanjoy wrote:Was just watching CNN, I think a Esprit owner in NY state should have read this thread![]()

The reason for the last couple of nasty winter spells in UK is, as I recall, due to jetstream "re-positioning" which brought continental or arctic airflows over UK, super-cooling the air and changing the weather pattern considerably.

I have not found them as bad as you describe! SV-2 I have. However, this is mainly town driving and noticed lack of feel during a longer jounrey. Wish it would cool down so they can stop wearing so fast!

Re: Winter tyres. Discuss.
To be fair, it will feel awful driving on winter tyres for the first time, especially in warm dry conditions. It's a bit like going from a set of slicks onto full wets on a hot dry track. The tyres are designed for different purposes and have a different performance envelope. You couldn't judge a slick tyres performance on a few miles on a cold wet track.
I find that after a few days, you do adapt your driving style to suit the tyres and you'll find yourself being less aggressive with turn-in and braking. I have found that in warmer conditions, a few more psi does help with steering feel.
However, the first time you drive them on snow and ice you will be astonished at the difference, especially if you have the chance to drive a car with "normal" summer tyres in the same conditions.

I always run winters slightly higher than book. Kumho winters on the Saab: book says 36psi - they're at 39/40 for just now, I'll drop them when the snow actually arrives.alicrozier wrote: It was my first drive, the wife had done 150 miles on them.

I find they feel a wee bit better when they're firmer.
I too, have a (homemade) snow plough for the mower. Only thing is, we built it a bit 'sturdy' and it's had a poor effect on the weight distribution.....thinfourth wrote:
