Re: Cycling - NLC
I've been getting back into mountain biking the last couple of years and fancy doing some sort of event this year. I'm looking at doing something fairly central belt of sorts ,so as no overnight stays as i'm on a short leash these days [sad i know] looking for something not too intimidating but at the same hand not too tame.Usually clock up about 25K on a 1.5/2 hour run which is about the most time i get but feel confident doing 50K. Not bothered about being of a competitive nature more a personal thing, also a well mapped out route would be great would prefer nothing needing gps or maps , so any ideas ???????

You could try this, there are several different distances www.selkirkmtbmarathon.com I plan to enter the 75km.
Or look on the British Cycling or Entry Central websites as there are loads of events on.

I did that a few years ago (100 miles on a mountain bike

I could be tempted to give it a go again this year, but would need to get into some training for it!

This is a good wee event. Great climb and fast descent, not technical.

Re: Cycling - NLC
Treated myself to a used bike bargain a few weeks ago... Full carbon Ribble Nero RC with a splash of Dura Ace...

Couldn't use it to start as I didn't have any pedals, bought some Look Keo Sprints and Bontrager shoes so now loving it! also changed the crappy Boradman saddle some one put on it for a comfy charge job!

Thinking I need the cleats adjusting as had a numb outside of my right foot on my last ride, not too clued up on setting these things up

Mark,
Here you go;
http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/fitness/ ... ctly-23575
Also take off your shoes from the pedals, unless your in a triathlon
In the first picture the bar tape looks new, but in the second it looks very dirty. Pretty cheap to replace and it will look much better.
Steve.

Awesome! Thanks Steve! Shoes are just there so kids dont hide one on me hahahahaha... Bar tape will be replaced in due course as will tyres but for now really happy with it.
That said when the road surface gets rough. I was under the illusion a carbon bike was meant to be more subtle and comfortable? Near as damn it lost all feeling in my hands on Edinburgh's sh*t roads lol...
P.S I do wash, the bar take pics are one indoors and the first is outside in natural light, it is a tad mucky though... Looking at some super Gel/Cork job next to keep some sensation in my paws

Re: Cycling - NLC
Get a proper bike fitting done so that you've got the best chance of being comfortable and avoiding injury. Any of the independent bike shops in Edinburgh will sort you out but Bicycle Works or the Tri Centre come well recommended.mwmackenzie wrote:Thinking I need the cleats adjusting as had a numb outside of my right foot on my last ride, not too clued up on setting these things up

Ha, no chance, especially at the cheaper end of the market. Carbon bike are designed to be light & stiff, they will transmit a lot of road buzz! If you want subtle & comfortable you need a steel or titanium bike!mwmackenzie wrote:I was under the illusion a carbon bike was meant to be more subtle and comfortable? It might also be that you bike position is wrong with too much weight on the arms (see previous post).
